"But the state's Legislative Fiscal Bureau -- similar to the federal government's Congressional Budget Office -- reported last month that tax cuts passed late last year by Wisconsin's newly elected, Republican-led legislature had helped add more than $200 million to the state's budget shortfall."
"Republican Gov. Scott Walker is looking to slash $131 million from the state budget. Walker has called on the 16 lawmakers to return to the state Capitol to vote on the measure Friday."
The previous two quotes are from the same CNN article -
http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/02/18/wiscon … tml?hpt=T2
But look at the two financial facts - with the left hand, the GOP legislature cut revenue by cutting taxes (mostly for the rich) by $200 million. TO offset the loss, the governor wants to balance the budget on the backs of the state employees - particularly teachers - to pick up $131 million.
Cut taxes and screw the worker.
There are fourteen --- not sixteen, as stated --- Democratic state senators who have left the state. The reason they did so is that Walker was trying to rush it all through with no debate. There was no alternative.
They're not Walker appointees, but elected legislators, accountable to constituents. Constituents did not want the bill to be voted without debate.
One of the "Fab14" -- Senator Fred Risser --- is 83 years old. He's either the most senior or one of the two most senior members of the Wisconsin state legislature. Another of the fourteen is six months pregnant.
The pro-Walker folks have already stopped direct deposit of their paychecks. Some are suggesting that $100 per day be deducted from their paychecks. Their staffs have already been barred from using the State Senate copying machines.
One of the Republicans stated that a deal was brokered through a Democratic legislator's office that would deliver five or six of the Fab 14 to the Senate floor today. Senator Risser said that's not true, and no deal like that was ever mentioned. They already had a pact that they act together, and only together. They will either all return together, or all stay away together.
"But look at the two financial facts - with the left hand, the GOP legislature cut revenue by cutting taxes (mostly for the rich) by $200 million." So simple what you found.
" tax cuts passed late last year by Wisconsin's newly elected, Republican-led legislature".. Most people don't have an
attention span that long.
Some call it class warfare. Republican warfare is usually on the lower classes.
Yes, I saw one sign that said, "They only call it class warfare when we fight back."
And then the people of Wisconsin will recall all those Repubs who tried to sell Wisconsin to the highest bidder...most likely Koch.
I've had my fill of him already....
10 years and counting big oil money has been blocking the Wind Farm off Nantucket Sound....
10 years and buckoo bucks. Koch has a house looking onto the Sound.
They really think they can BUY the earth and all the people on it!
Yes, that's true, lovemychris.
From what I've heard, it does sound like the Koch brothers are the highest bidder for Wisconsin.
The no-bid sales of energy companies ---- another sneaky little problem with this bill.
Apparently Walker is addicted to Koch.
No, they know that they can buy the earth and all the people on it. . .and a good few of the people will stand on their heads to help them!
Hey John, don't you mean some will bury their heads in the sand and stick their A$$ up in the air, so that they get the best F*** job of century?
Couldn't have put it better myself. Oh hang on, I didn't
Formula for disaster-
Yes, politics is more certainly a formula for disaster, especially when the citizens themselves refuse to hold their representatives accountable.
Right on again!
We need to kick them in the ass until their head hurts!
Ask them how they feel after the recall elections.

Running off to Illinois, the Dems in the Wisconsin state legislature were too cowardly to face a vote that they knew they would lose. Tremendous statesmen these cowards are! If they had a better idea why weren't they able to convince anyone of it? It's all a political ploy...

I tried to add an amazon capsule to a hub the other day. Hm. No results. In fact, a search on "book" turned up no results. Very interesting. The hub tool must be broken.Later, I went to check on my Amazon earnings account and found that it had been closed. Just "closed". The...
