Bread and unrefrigerated things

   Challenge! What can you put on bread that...
   
   1.) Tastes good.
   2.) Does not require a refrigerator before or after opening.
   3.) Can be found at your local grocery store.
   
   So far, I've come up with peanut butter, honey, and bacon bits. Any other ideas?

   A random thought... Putting the bread in the refrigerator will make it last a month without mold.

   Nutella! I love Nutella; hazelnut butter with chocolate.. it's like the stuff inside those fancy truffles.
   
   ETA: And it doesn't need refrigeration before or after opening and it's found in the grocery store.

         From what I understand it's kind of a regional thing,  but we love eating "fluffernutters" (marshmallow fluff and PB sandwiches) here.
         
         My friend also buys laughing cow cheese wedges and uses them as cream cheese but never refrigerates them. I'm not sure whether that's OK, but they're usually not stored in the fridge section of the grocery store and the individual wedges are sealed, so I'd think it's OK.

   Buy a fridge. It's the best solution. You can stuff it with all kinds of food and forget about it. Some good things get spoiled pretty fast. Only very salted, sugared, dried or smoked things could be safe without it. Not really. You still need some cold storage.That's why people had cold cellars before refrigeration was invented. Canned food can be kept at room temperature, but you still have to eat ALL of it after opening. Not convenient, not practical.
   I noticed in Canada some people keep butter or margarine on top of their kitchen table. I never do that. I still think you should keep butter in the fridge. Spoiled fat is very bad for your liver. And eating a lot of sugary things is not my idea of a good meal. If you do not have a choice you can put some crushed vegetables on a grilled toast, whatever you prefer. I usually make my own salsa from raw vegetables - that I put on my bread with whatever else I fancy at the moment. If you live in a cold climate, you can put some wooden or plastic box outside your window, just make sure birds or other critters cannot open or steal it, and use it as your cooler/frodge. Though in Toronto it is still +16C outside...

    almond butter is a great option, and add bananas to both the pb and almond butter! When we were kids my mom used to put cinnamon sugar on toast. You can also make an fresh veggie sandwich with whatever is in the garden or buy fresh that day.

    snicker bars - just wrap a piece of white bread around it and call it a sandwitch!  if you have to, go ahead and spread some fluff on it.  I wouldn't, but its an individual thing.

    bananas, jam, honey, marmalade, nutella
    savoury:
    hard-boiled eggs with mayonnaise, soup, marmite, pickle or chutney
    ... but not all at the same time, obviously!
