Hubpages says 300- 400 words, but Google loves anything above 700 . Since it is Google that brings in the cash you might as well cater to Google's fancies and make your work profitable.
I basically think your articles should have enough content to grab the attention of the reader and the search engines.
Though I may not fall among the prominent hubbers I just thought I had the answer to your question.
Welcome to HP and enjoy yourself here.. smile

@bangla-news, err.. I haven't really contributed anything useful in the thread but I appreciate everyone's insights. I never even knew there was a quota for words. In Wizzley and Squidoo, I'm always warned about articles or lenses that are too short. Plus, there were too many things you need to do. I'd put my cents on HubPages compared to the other sites.

I agree with Sofs - it also depends on the article too. A produce related article can be shorter as long as you get all the main facts out quickly - often readers don't want to see 1000 words on a product. However, if it's a 'HOW TO' article then readers may expect far more detail...

Anything over 50,000 words is acceptable. However, you want to go for at least 150,000 if you want to be a good hubber.

        Hi Haunty,

Are you talking about total hubs or a single hub?

        Thanks!

Haunty is talking about the number of characters I suppose.. may just be an oversight .

I think 50,000 characters is not bad, which is about 8,000 words per hub. Better yet is 50,000 hubs, though. wink

Words across all hubs. If you divide it by 600, which is probably the optimal length for hubs, you get an 80-250 range. Now that we are on subdomains I consider this the optimal number of hubs an account should have. If you go beyond that your traffic might suffer. I'm of the mind now that you should have separate accounts for separate topic areas you write on.

haunting task  indeed 8000 words per hub.. lol .. that is a valid point ..I have been considering  different accounts ..i hope we could find a way of shifting and sorting our hubs.. into different niches.. now that we are on subdomains.
