Why are our schools not teaching the basic survival skills?
For those of you that do not think we need to know them, please consider the happenings all around us.
It just makes good sense that people know what to do in the event of a disaster of some sort.
I agree, the best survival skill the school has is duck and cover. Really its on us to teach our kids how to survive. The schools only provide education.
How about parents teaching these skills to the kids? That would ensure they source them, too as many parents have no idea of basic survival. Along with that, why don't we have basic survival kits in the home? And it wouldn't be a bad subject for all schools (some have them) Diogenes

If there is one thing that could change socioty as a whole it would be teaching our youths what impact poor decision making can have , not your ususal D.A.R.E or anything like that, those are great programs , but maybe on doing or staging senarios where they interact or act out...

What steps do you think we should take to improve our education system?I'd like to see more courses in our high schools that embrace the arts and the humanities, and performance-based assessments as opposed to "teaching to the test."
