Just out of curiosity

   I have been wondering recently how some "judges" are chosen for our contest, off course I assumed they were experts or very good and knowledgeable about the field that they were going to judge. So out of curiosity I did some looking and to say the least, was quite surprised.
   
   For example one of the categories like most others has 5 well deserving "judges".
   
   One with at least 3 years on HP with about 318 hubs and a profile score of 95, not bad except that I only found 1 hub dealing with the subject which is being judged.
   
   Another "judge" has at least 4 years of HP, 719 hubs, which is impressive,and a well deserved profile of 100, yet again I only noticed 0 Hubs on the subject matter.
   
   Yet another of the selected "judges" has been around for a little longer than I have with a good number of hubs at around 123 a decent score of 97 and 1 subject matter hub. Not bad I'm thinking.  Things are getting better.
   
   Well the next "judge" has been here a little over 1 year, a good number of hubs at 134, good score of 95 yet I don't think I looked hard enough since I could not find a single article dealing with the subject that is being judged.
   
   Well I went on to "judge" number 5, and lo & behold was extremely pleased by what I saw; On HP for over a year and a half, an impressive number of hubs at 23 , a good score of about 95 and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw at least 6 very good subject matter hubs.
   
   Needless to say my confident level shot right up and I am now undoubtedly sure that they will make great "judges" in their category. In fact I am so confident in their abilities that I have removed the contest tag from my entries......

         Ok Randy, could you dig me up a couple who you feel aren't qualified to greet new hubbers? (which is what most of us do).

            Then why aren't you guys called "Hub Greeters" instead of sporting a title which suggests superiority of some sort?    Unless of course, Elite means something other than what I've always thought it did.

               I agree with Randy, from what I have seen many of the Elite have been around for at least 2 years and usually have a high profile score. Apart from that there doesn't seem to be a degree of specialization, which is what I think that may be the cause of some confusion as the title of  "Elite" suggests & carries other connotations ......

      I'm actually amazed that HP are having this competition. Most of the competitions have been on 'subjects' or at the very least you could see quality articles - you may be able to argue whether the winners are the best, but usually when you are objective you can agree that they are deserving.
      
      With an 'arts' competition the results are going to be very subjective - no matter who the judges are, there'll be a lot of discussion about the merits of the winners! (Hopefully they will all be so astounding that there won't!) I for one would not want to be a judge in this contest!

      So essentially what you are saying is that you are solely looking at volume and hub score as an indication of how qualified they are?

         Did you read the post? volume and hub score are just coincidental attributes.
         What I noticed is the very apparent lack of expertise in the field which they are judging......

   Good question!
   
   The judges were selected by individual factors.. for example, when selecting the Poetry panel...
   
   Drax was picked because he has time to publish such great work even though he is involved in a cloud computing deployment company that you should check out: www.memeonics.com

   Saddlerider was picked due to the sage wisdom found in his poetry, and because he is Canadian (which means that he should naturally lean towards supporting his own countrymen)
   
   RebekahElle was chosen because she is so beautiful
   
   epigramman was chosen because he too, is so beautiful
   
   The only thing that we can hope is that they judge all the entries fairly... and that they are susceptible to flattery
