Non-profit environment?

Teacher Michelle (Ripplemaker) asked if I could post this question in the forum for her.

She recently got permission from a publishing company to post their story in her article as long as it is in a "non-profit environment".  Can she use it in HubPages?  Or is HubPages for profit? yikes

I don't think hubpages qualifies as a non profit. But, if she isn't signed up with the affiliates and is just writing for fun or to help the readers then I would say those hubs are not for profit. But she should ask her publisher to clarify what they mean. if they mean only those NOP that file under 501 with IRS then that would be different.

Judging by the level of earnings experienced by many here; one surely could contend that this would qualify as a 'non-profit environment' (initially).

Such a 'term' would always be contentious in regard to interpretation. What context is the term set in, within RM's agreement?

You can turn the ads off completely and make that page non-profit.

That's true, but then that would probably defeat one of the purposes for publishing the article in the first place. tongue

Can one do that on one page only? smile
Well, if that is possible... I would.
It's a children's story...a short one but it is something dear to my heart.

Yes, you can, tich. You'll see the option at the top of the page in Edit mode. Uncheck "this hub may be considered commercial" then select None for Ads. smile

Yeah I would say it is, I don't think there's any way to turn all the ads off completely.

I see... I didn't really see the "agreement", Teacher Michelle just told me about it.  She'll have to be the one to clarify that, I think.  I'll go call her. smile

Teacher Susan, thanks so much for posting the question.  big_smile You are a dear!

I will clarify with them.  But when I asked permission I did post the link of Hubpages and told them I had intended to share it here.  Hmmm...but I will ask. Thanks everyone. :-)
