The RNC shouted against entitlements but are they really? These governors have no problem accepting help, long and short term when they need it (Jindal for one accepting billions of dollars to repair levees to save one city). And why do they only use the poor as an example of entitlement? After all Social Security could be viewed as entitlements. The argument will be I paid in, but the question in many cases is what did you take out in comparison to what you paid in? Disability could be viewed as entitlement when even here, many supplement their income and can even make a good income writing here (So do they really need that entitlement)? Medicare could be viewed as entitlement even though Medicaid for the poor is viewed worse! So I can only assume helping "some is okay?" Instead of subsidizing the big oil companies, cut that back to zero and keep the existing programs in place. Pull out of these pricey wars and the money saved will help save these programs as well. But it's easier to call the poor abusors of the system when in fact many programs in place, used by all, are forms of entitlement!
I wish all Americans were against entitlements, including Social Security.
America used to be the land of the free and home of the brave. Entitlements make people weak. They suborn people to learned helplessness. You can't get around that. Communist Russia was an entitlement system. People lost all incentive.
Another reason to do away with all entitlements is that the entitlements have to come from someone. For someone to take advantage of an entitlement, those resources have to be taken from someone else.
Now, I'm all for compassion. But I'm entirely against legislated or government enforced "compassion." Why? Because of the middlemen taking their hefty cut -- rife with abuses. When someone deals with billions of dollars, there is the all too real temptation to take some of that for other purposes. Like the private Federal Reserve bank where all of our tax funds go. Yes, a private bank, owned in part by the Rockefellers and the Rothschilds.
Before entitlements, people took care of the poor. I've contributed to the poor -- not as much as some and more than others.
End big government. It has become a monster. The founding fathers would be appalled.
In a perfect republic I would wholeheartedly agree and be satisfied with throwing the lazy and freeloaders off the public teet. But there are more elements to this other than go out and make your way amoung the masses. When entry level jobs such as WalMart and Target become the jobs that are plentiful and day care eats up the whole of one of the paychecks so that you can go to the other job to actually clear some living expenses the mission to get out of poverty and welfare becomes more than most people can bear even if they are devoted to getting clear of the entitlements. Corporate American has effectively raided the career jobs that made a decent living possible while feeding us jobs that only profits them and enslaves the population. Sure you can go to school and better yourself but what is there once you are finished and your job went to India or Pakistan? A big debt and no job to pay it back in any quick manor. It is simple to close the noose around one group but much harder when the noose is around all our necks.
Rhamson, I totally agree. We have become a country of service jobs! Just a shame so many Republicans avoid this type of question!
I agree that the republicans avoid these subjects but I also think the democrats should clean their house as well. The military spending has gone way out of control and what is going on with wall street corruption. They crashed the economy and nobody is to pay except the taxpayer. Congress repealed Glass/Steagall and the de-regulation shaped the whole scenario to fail. Should Congress not pay with their jobs as well. The only answer is that this failed system of votes for sale with the obscene money going into campaigns and candidates pockets is what we should all focus on. But it is far easier for the slimy politicians to side track the whole shooting match with these magical jobs that Romney can create and the wonderous American free enterprise system that will fix it all. The abortion issue has gained some more good press lately and how can we ever forget the ever popular welfare reform to top off the non action perenial topics in order to avoid the prostitution of the republic by congress and the rest of this failed system of government. I am sorry to rain on anyones parade but when either one of them wins nothing will change until the oligarchy says it can change.

Through our working years we all paid for Social Security and Medicare, so why are they considered entitlements when in fact we contributed our own money into the system?
