I just looked at the comments to one of my hubs and found that the comments are backwards. The newest comments are at the top and the oldest comments are at the bottom instead of in the proper order with the oldest comments at the top and the newest comments and newest replies at the bottom. What do I need to do to correct this and to stop the order from getting messed up again?
In the edit mode, go to the hub in question, and to the comments capsule of the hub-- click "edit".
You will find a check box in there that says " Display most recent comments first " .
If it is NOT checked you will see comments from oldest to newest in order.
Some people like to put most recent up at the top. I don't. I think they are easier to read in chronological order, but it is the author's choice.
For me there is no edit mode for hubs, or for hub capsules, that are not mine. I just made my global setting for Comments to always put the most recent hubs last, at the bottom, and then I went to someone's hub that I commented on recently, and the comments are still backward, and I could not find a way to edit them or reverse the sort order. The oldest comments are at the bottom and the recent comments like mine are at the top. The normal way to read text is from the top of a page or screen down, not from the bottom of a page or screen up. Strangest of all, the author's reply to my comment comes before (that is, above) my comment, which makes no sense. If an author has chosen to put comments in backward order with newest first, why can't I click a resort button and view them in the correct order? A web page should be user customizable. Or is there a way that I'm not seeing? Anyway, thanks for explaining how I can make the choice in my own hubs.
Hi
You can change these settings by going to "My account" >> "Comments"
On comment settings, you can change comment global settings
by selecting "Yes" on "Display most recent comments first" option.
I hope this help. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
If you want to display the oldest comments at the top, select "No" on "Display most recent comments first" option. Alternatively you can select "Configure per Hub" option to set these settings per particular hub.
Thanks for your helpful replies, dwachira. Now I know how to make sure my own hubs have comments in the right order. I don't think that I have had a problem with those. The annoyance comes in other hubbers' hubs. Some have the comments in the correct order and some have the comments in the wrong order, and I don't see a way for me or any viewer (except the author) to fix that. The system seems to be set up to let page authors impose on page viewers the order in which comments are viewed and read. Or no?
I usually have the comments set to display in chronological order, with the oldest first, newest at the bottom.
But, for some hubs that are older, and have a LOT of comments, I reverse the order, so that anyone who has recently made a comment doesn't have to scroll through the lot of them to find my reply to their comment.
And 99.99% of the time, I do try to put, at the very least, an acknowledgement of the person's comment.
Thanks for your input DzyMsLizzy and thanks for your thoughtfulness. If I came upon one of your hubs after you had switched the comments to reverse chronological, i would probably write a comment as usual (because the system jumps to the bottom for that purpose) and then when I got a notification that you had replied, I would go back to the hub and scroll to the bottom of the comments, realize that they were in the other order, and scroll to the top to find my comment and your reply. I do a lot of scrolling way down and way back up.One option in the case of a lot of comments would be to both put them in reverse chronological order and change the initial view from All to, say, 20.

This is a suggestion for an additional feature to the option to order comments by either oldest or most recent as first-appearing.The current tool is useful for hubs with many comments, as I means people do not have to scroll through 50 or more comments to read the most recent. However, it would be...

On all my Hubs, the comment box doesn't show any comment newer then two years ago, I have questions to answer but I can't get to my newest comments. Can any one help me with this issue? Thanks.

Which do you prefer: placing your comments at the end or at the beginning of your comment thread? As my comment threads grow, I find it takes so much time to get to the bottom of the thread. On the other hand, I fear missing someone's comment if I don't go through the whole thread.

It would be a much easier and more interactive experience if replies from hub author could be placed directly under the comment he/she is replying to. They too often seem to get lost in the shuffle and can be hard to find - and correlate.

It would be a nice quality of life thing to re-order this data with the most recent first. Scrolling down through 10 years of earnings is tedious. You could even HIDE data more than a few months, and save the bandwidth (with a button to show if desired).

I've come to hubPages from another writing site and I LOVE it here, except for one thing. I would prefer if responses to comments would show up directly UNDERthe comment being replied to. The way it is makes me feel...disconnected..from the person I am responding to. This seems fairly basic, no?
