I would be interested in what others think. You may not agree that this is a possibility, but even if you don't; you can still contribute.

I don't believe our consciousness survives as a separate individual after physical death, but I do think that part of us which continues on is a part of a greater whole. If that were true, it would mean we chose to separate for this period we call our life. What do you think is achieved by that? If you existed as a disembodied spirit, what could you accomplish by separating yourself into life forms in a reality completely different from your own? Not simply people, but animals, plants microscopic organisms and even rocks. What is to be learned here in this reality?

I realize we have the ability to gain experience through senses that wouldn't exist without a corporeal form; but what do you think we might have hoped to learn by creating and participating in this reality?

Hay there Emile R     good question.
I personally lean towards the possibility that I am/was an entity in and of itself before I entered this physical body. Whether that entity which I was, is a fragment of a higher entity or not is yet another question?
I don’t know that there is any purpose for this life except maybe simply to be able to feel, and taste; to simply have the whole physical experience. This would make reincarnation a real possibility.  In which case, whatever experience we had in a past life would have some effect upon what kind of experiences we would choose for our next adventure ( If we have a choice ? )
If there is another purpose for this life,  I think that purpose won’t be found in this life but in that other place or dimension.  Maybe this is just wishful thinking?
As a wise man once said;  It is all vanity, just eat drink and be merry.

Well, I don't consider reincarnation impossible. But, it appears that it is highly improbable. We have very few cases of claimed reincarnation that appear to be possibly valid. I would think, if we were separate entities before and after...and we could all expect to be reincarnated, then we would have much more evidence to point to.

I used to be fascinated with Edgar Cayce, so I did once believe that might be the case. Since his prophecies have been proven bogus, I've not been able to accept his readings as evidence of anything more than he had a gift that is unexplained.

I agree that it is all vanity. And it's becoming more so. Eat, drink and be merry doesn't have to equate to vanity. Look at the example of Christ. He did all of that, but vanity didn't define him.  It didn't define the Buddha. I'm not sure about Mohammed, but he was more of a warlord than a spiritual leader. I simply think we are meant to discover more than ourselves.

I did say that I lean toward,  But it seems to me (lol)     And it does please me to think that I was an entity of sorts before this body wraped itself around me and I will be again as soon as I get out of it.
It only makes sense to me that when I find that other self again, I may not even know it when I do, but I will again be a part of a bigger self than I currently think that I will be.

          That makes sense.

Emile R   ...   I don't think we are suposed to understand it completely while we are on this side of whatever is. I feel pretty certain we would mess the game plan all up if we did.
