I seem to have picked up a nasty troller. This person has been a member of HP for 2 years, but has absolutely no featured Hubs or any Hubs at all on her page. Unfortunately she seems to have picked me to, well, pick on - which means she is probably doing it to others as well. She is negative, rude, and just plain abrasive. I have denied her comments as I had read in previous posts is the first step, but if she keeps it up is there a way to report her to truly make her stop?

You can report her profile page and leave a comment about what the 'member' is doing, and continue denying comments.

Great, thank you! I figured out how to do that and I copied her most recent comments in the report. I just am in awe that someone would have a profile here with no hubs and start targeting me. I have no idea who the person is and I have had no encounters with her until she negatively commented on my hub two days ago. Now she seems to be going through my hubs and adding rude comments. I like to think that people are generally friendly, so to encounter someone like this is really disheartening.

Some of these trolls are in disguise (really don't know the gender) because they were previously banned from HP and has returned under a different guise to harass members. Some will leave damaging remarks in the forums and on hubs just to be nasty. Flag them and HP will do something.

Thank you! It's good to know these deeds do not go unpunished!

This is good advise. I did these exact steps and the person went away not to be heard from again. Im hoping it's not just a coincidence.

No Beth, HP takes this very seriously and many hubbers who have been banned were done so for this very reason.

Well I hope she wasn't banned... although she was quite a nuisance. She was writing my email (even after I asked her not to contact me again) and leaving her extremely negative opinions on several of my hubs. I wasn't trying to get her banned just wanted her to back off. Odd thing is, I can't even remember her name.

That's awful. The thing is that I don't mind someone leaving a comment that they don't agree with what I said and why. Sometimes those are the best conversations! I don't agree with someone attacking the author personally or just saying negative and mean things for no reason. If someone doesn't like what they read and they feel the need to be rude, then they shouldn't leave a comment at all.

Yeah, I think you just know when a line is crossed between someone disagreeing with your point and being harassed. I hope HP's can help you too.

    Angie,

I'm sorry to hear that you've been getting trolls. I'm sure HubPages will be able to solve it. Like most in this thread say, you can always report it to HP. Probably we just have to accept that there will be trolls around the internet for a long time. Try to stay positive and let the good people of HubPages do the best they can about these trolls!

Once you put yourself in the publics eye, there will always be people who line you up for a cheap shot. Unless it's racist or threatening, just deny the comments on your pages and ignore the person. At least you have one loyal reader! ;-)

Too funny! I did think that I must be doing something right if I already have a troller after just two months...lol smile

    Angie,

I set my comments to require moderation before they appear. That gives me time to catch any nasties. This includes spam as well. Then I have time to delete them or report them. I also sometimes check their  IP address to see their approximate location... at least what country they are from.

Hey, by the way, welcome to HubPages!

Thanks! I had set my comments up like that as well, so it allowed me to deny her comments so they weren't published. I didn't even think about checking the IP address. I did see what country her profile said she was from, so that gave me a little info, if it was true, that is.
