An Ad problem we may want to check

   I only use Ebay for my ads, and when I went into my hubs tonight to delete all but one or none per hub, I discovered that because I use key words to get the ads, many were totally irrelevant to my hubs! This may be one of the reasons my scores dropped!  For example, I wrote an article about discover card, and the key word card prompted an ad for baseball cards because the original product that was advertised which was for discover apparently disappeared.  I found similar situations on several hubs.  If this is happening to many people, it could definitely be considered spam.  Just thought I'd throw this out there to see what you guys think.

      That is a risk you run with eBay; unless you use broad search terms for a product that is very popular and common it is likely to disappear.  Auctions end, after all, and a different ad must be found every time they do.  Of course, if the search term is TOO broad you will get baseball cards instead of discover cards.  A balancing act, indeed.

      This happened to me on some of my amazon capsules.  I started a thread about it a couple of weeks ago, http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/114958 . I am now in the process of going back and fixing things.

      The other thing I noticed which I mentioned on a forum the other day, is that one time I was trying to find eBay auctions for potato peelers.  The capsule kept pulling up apple peelers because all of the listings had "potato peeler" in the apple peeler listings as keywords.  This poses a problem for the restriction on ads per capsule because the first item was the apple peeler.  The second item was the potato peeler.  I couldn't get the capsule to delete the apple peeler and use the correct potato peeler.  This happened again on another capsule for something else, and again I could only pull up something irrelevant because the eBay item had keywords in the title that were irrelevant to the auction itself.

         If you enter the keywords as " potato peelers -apple " then the eBay capsules will never show apple peelers. See my detailed post a few back in this thread where I explain this. I use the minus sign in most of my eBay capsule to maintain better control.

   I had a few Hubs in which I used far too many eBay ads and many did not match the text content, so I deleted them. That seemed to help Hub score and to increase traffic.

      I was very upset when I saw this and know it was affecting my numbers.  I really think ebay should  advertise what is requested and if there is no replacement product, leave the ad blank until one comes along.  I may go back and get rid of all of them.  Right now I only have one per hub, but I'm not sure it is worth even having that many if that is how they do things.  I tried Amazon and never made one cent with it, so dropped it long ago.  Personally, I don't think Google wants the competition, which is the real reason they want people to dump ads.  I may be wrong about that and I do know that many people post far too many ads, even within the rules we now have, and they do look terrible on the hubs.

   In case eBay products that don't match are causing people to click thumbs down, here's a trick you may want to try...
   
   1. Go to your Stats page.
   2. Change the last filter to "eBay" so you only see hubs that have eBay capsules.
   3. Sort by the "Score" column.
   
   Now examine all your hubs that have low scores to be sure the eBay capsules show the right things.
   
   To eliminate unwanted items showing up in an eBay capsule, include the keyword of the unwanted item with a minus sign in front of it. In your case an example would be "discover cards -baseball" ... Make sure you don't have a space after the minus sign.
   
   eBay is tricky and requires constant monitoring of hubs with eBay capsules to be sure nothing funny is showing up. Then you can always add that with a minus sign when you catch it.

      Thanks Glenn...but I just finished removing all of the ebay capsules from every hub.  It is more work than it is worth.

   Oh my gosh Glen Stok. You are a lifesaver.  I could not, for the life of me, figure out how to find all the hubs that had ebay to check.  And these tips on keywords are fantastic.  Thank you, thank you!
