Private lobbying groups for cities, counties get public pensions in at least 20 states
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- As a lobbyist in New York's statehouse, Stephen Acquario is doing pretty well. He pulls down $204,000 a year, more than the governor makes, gets a Ford Explorer as his company car and is afforded another special perk:
Even though he's not a government employee, he is entitled to a full state pension.
He's among hundreds of lobbyists in at least 20 states who get public pensions because they represent associations of counties, cities and school boards, an Associated Press review found. Legislatures granted them access decades ago on the premise that they serve governments and the public. In many cases, such access also includes state health care benefits.
No wonder there are so many that go into this line of work. This needs to stop.

The U.S. is upside down when it comes to deciding what to fund. And, deciding what to un - fund. The US Representatives [sic] squawk about Social Security; contributed to by workers who can hardly afford groceries from their wages, Medicare and FICA withholding, State Income and sales tax, the cost of supplying electricity and water to a family home, not counting fuel, tires and other maintenance. America was supposed to be an equal structure where all men are created, endowed with inalienable rights were considered individually and the whole. No longer. Lulu - world.
Sorry, but you have no inalienable right to force someone else to cover the cost of delivering electricity to your home.
Guess I missed the point then. I took it as though we all have an inalienable right to a whole slew of stuff that we can't afford - just make someone else pay for it.
The lobbyists essentially work for a branch of the government and are paid ultimately by the taxpayer, that is why they get the pension.
it is sad that government needs to lobby itself, but given that it does -- these people are government workers.

President Biden announced today a plan to give $36 Billion to pension plans, mostly the Teamsters, because the stock market has fallen so badly and those funds suffered as a result. The taxpayer will now bail out poorly run pension plans, keeping pensions high, rather than putting it into our...
