The value of tweets (Twitter not feathered birds!)

   Hi, I've heard that some hubbers promote their hubs usng Twitter. I've not yet got an account on Twitter. Is it worth doing and does it take a lot of time to promote your hubs? i.e. do you have to tweet lots to make any difference?
   What's your experience?

      Yes it worth on the long run. If you spend few minutes daily to socialize and share your goods, if you forget about automatic tweets, if you retweet often and consistently about good things. It is a PR10 page and I know friends who use ONLY twitter for their websites to win traffic and exposure.
      
      From the moment you are decided to use twitter to the moment you'll become aware how important is to use twitter will pass months and this is the reason why some people don't use it - everybody want results today. If you are the same, don't spend your time on twitter.

   I've not noticed any difference.  I have a Twitter account, but I'm not on there much.  My new articles, both here and blogs, are auto-posted using Twitter-feed.  You can set it to auto-post to more services than just Twitter, including Face Book and LinkedIn.

   No need, tweets only go out to your friends, if they are not on tweeter then they wont get it.

      Ah, but if you are 'well-connected,' then your friends can re-tweet to their friends, and so on, and so on, and so on.....
      
      (But I guess I'm not well  enough connected on Twitter.. LOL) 
      
      I do get more traffic from Google than I used to--the balance has tipped, as before I got more traffic from within HP, much less from outside.
      
      I've also got a page set up on Face Book, where I tout my new postings, as well as sharing work of other hubbers....create such a page using your Hub Pages author name, and it will be seen, so even when you help others, they have seen your name, and it can help build your audience as well.
      I've also done a lot of editing work in the past weak, fixing inadequate titles, and adding photos to some hubs; improving them on others...so I'm looking forward to even better organic traffic from outside.

   Thanks DzyMsLizzy. I hadn't heard of auto-post, so I need to check that out. I'm still a bit wary of being in too many places all over the internet (I'm a bit shy I guess!) so I don't want to open a Twitter account unless I'm convinced it's going to be worth it.

   Hi bn9900. My friends already been given their instructions to regularly check out my hubs. I'm thinking about Twitter as a way to get complete strangers to see my articles.

      That won't happen unless your friends also 're-tweet' your posts....
      
      OR, unless you start following people (strangers) with similar interests, and they follow you back....

         Ah I think I understand now. I sort of assumed that tweets were sent out into the "wilderness" where they would be seen and picked up by random tweeters.
         I'm not well connected (LOL) so Twitter is probably not for me after all!

            They are to an extent - they can come up in search and if you use relevant hashtags more people may see them, but you probably won't get a lot of traffic like that.

   DML: I'm learning a lot already about my hub traffic from those graphs etc under "stats" on each hub. Even though I'm only a week-old hubber I can see some SEO terms already being picked up by search engines. And they're not always the ones that I had expected, so I'm learning a lot as I go along and I'm constantly tweaking my hubs.

   If people follow you and want to read your stuff it is low effort, high result.  Twitter works great for my blog, but not for my hubs.

   Hi Beth just sign up and run around and follow as man other twitter users as you can find, you can bet some of them will follow you back! If you run a blog on your own website too you can often set it up so you automatically post to twitter all your latest blog posts. You should also look at hootsuit it allows you to schedule all your posts days, weeks or even months ahead.

      My blog is more focused and there are specific groups who want the kind of information I put on it.  I also use twitter to get news for that blog.
      
      I don't do follow back.  I follow experts on the topic and I am followers by people interested in what I say about that topic.
      
      For my hubs they are not fresh or opinionated, just Google fodder for a general readership.  So I don;t bother tweeting them.

    Hi Beth, I use Twitter to share my articles but I can't say it has given me a great boost in traffic. However, it's always good to get a tweet that one of my friend followers or a stranger follower retweeted one of my tweets. It happens maybe on average twice a month. I think the increased exposure is a good investment in getting a Twitter account to promote your work. For example, I sometimes get a new follower after I had just tweeted an article which tells me they liked the article.
    I also try to use Twitter strategically by adding a teaser followed by the link, tweet articles related to what's trending, add "RETWEET" to my teaser, and use hashtags, especially when something is trending or for breaking news.
    I think the time and strategy is all worth it because you ever know which tweet will hit the jackpot. It can't hurt.

    When I used to be putting an effort into my acct. I would sometimes go on a twitter or a fan page acct. and post one of my hubs links on it... Gavin DeGraw, Mumford and Sons etc. and I did notice my count on those hubs went up a noticeable amount.
