what would you say is considered 'going viral'?

   Hello hubbers
   
   I've read a couple of post where a hubber will say their post 'went viral'. So what would you consider, in number of views, is 'viral'?
   
   I have one particular hub that has had roughly 1500 views since i put it up. Is that viral?
   Or would it mean if you have more than a certain amount of views on one hub in one day?
   
   Just curious to see what you all consider 'going viral'.

      Going viral is directly related to big social traffic spikes (usually over a day or two) from sites like facebook, twitter, pinterest, reddit etc.
      
      For true virility I'd say you're looking at traffic in the 10's of thousands minimum.

      I wrote an article (on another website) and it has gotten 19k pageviews by itself. I would not consider that viral. In the YouTube world, 1 million views may be considered viral. I know people that have gotten 1 million views on just one article. I think that would be considered viral.
      
      1,500 pageviews is a good job for an article. Now, see if you can get that on all future articles. Great job.

         I've got a hub with nearly 1.5 million views but it's never gone viral - it just gets lots of traffic from search.

                     Haha! No, that hub gets all of 3 hits a day. Maybe 10 when it's doing well.
                     
                     I wrote it to appeal to 11-14 year olds {not lonely men looking for thrills} but it's never taken off.

         Thanks. I was wondering about this, because I also don't consider 1 or 2000 views as viral. So I was wondering whether anyone had really had a hub go viral, as in several hundred thousand, or million views.

         I Have one hub that has a total of 565,433 views in total and I don't consider it going viral..it just gets a steady high amount of views each day

      I've seen daily spikes on articles where they've done 250-300 views in a day compared to a standard day's average of maybe 20 views so in comparison to normal traffic levels I'd consider that as 'going viral' but in hindsight I'd expect surges bigger than that for some areas dependant on traffic capabilities.
      
      My sport and cycling related content is rather specialist in many areas so some of my content I feel would never get that level of a surge.
      
      1500 views on an article sounds a good building block to work from- Is there more to increase it's prominence with google by generating a few extra backlinks? Or getting friends to facebook like it to provide an additional boost? Alternately if people are searching in that area what offshoots could you do to link to and from it to potentially drive more traffic to your pages and encourage search engines to believe you're an expert in the area?

   I had a hub (on another account) that got 80,000 views in around 3 days (mostly search engines). I think viral is any abnormally high spike.
   
   There's also longterm viral - content that has been shared in so many places, it keeps getting picked up and reshared randomly.
   
   Getting immediate high views on an evergreen topic via social media is the hardest, IMO.

      I agree with this version for a HubPages definition of "viral."  If you're getting an amazing spike well beyond your usual numbers, consider it viral for you.

   One caveat - if you spot a hub that suddenly has thousands of views and is growing by the minute, run the traps on the source of the views.  Sometimes HP gets attacked maliciously by people (usually in another country) who give thousands of hits to hubs that perform well. It can damage your HP account, and can even damage your AdSense account, so you'll need to report it to HP right away, and also to AdSense.  Usually, multiple Hubbers are affected, so HP knows you're not breaking rules and AdSense understands as well.
