The Google Webmaster Tools provides a page rank number for pages that they have listed for you.  Are these true numbers.  If they say Page 2 for a particular hub, does that mean it is on Page 2 of Google search.

That's where your page appeared for average search terms that it popped up for.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank

Page rank does not reflect on what page your article shows up in the search results. It is more of a ranking of your page in general. It ranks from 0 to 10, and the higher the number, the better.

I wasn't speaking about the page rank checker.
I was referring to ranking in Google search engine, which page of search hub is on.

Right - I am unclear too.  Is that the page your article appears on or your "slot" among the SERPs.

There is a site that gives you this information.  I learned about it when I was at Squidoo.

              This is the link:  http://whatpageofsearchamion.com/

There are several sites that claim to give you an accurate position, but they're not reliable - the figures in Google Webmaster tools are more accurate.  RebekahELLE has explained it well.

It is an average position, it's not necessarily where the page or search query ranks at all times.
If you click on Search Queries in the Search Traffic category, you can look at 'Top queries' and ''Top Pages'.  The far right column lists average position.  If you click on average position it will rank them starting on page 1.
The Help section explains it better than I can as far as how the calculation is done.
Average position: The average top position of your site on the search results page for that query.  With change also shows the change compared to the previous period. Green indicates that your site's average top position is improving.

To calculate average position, we take into account the top ranking URL from your site for a particular query. For example, if Jane’s query returns your site as the #1 and #2 result, and David’s query returns your site in positions #2 and #7, your average top position would be 1.5.

You can also click the 'with change' box and it will show changes for that period. I think the Top Queries is much more helpful as that is how people are finding our pages.  It doesn't really help if I have a lot of page 1's in the Top Pages if no one is searching for them.  But it's a good way to find those that may need help with search phrases.

I did that and the results were the same.  I haven't checked any lately, because the ones doing well in search engines are no longer on HP. I haven't checked the remaining ones lately. I am not that interested in them since they are for a specific target group who will find them with their searching or through social media.

WebMaster Tools give "Avg. Pos." Not "Page Rank"

So is Linda asking about avg. pos or Page Rank.

Since she is looking at WebMaster Tools that is what we should reference.

The "avg pos."  is pretty good on WMT. It refers to page Not slot. Mine that say number one are all on the bottom of page one and they are Not my HubPage. It is my Google+ post for the HubPage. I have yet to see an actual Hub page listing on the first page.

She did ask about Page Rank but then went on to clarify she actually meant position in the search engines.
