Should we demolish all zoos and circuses because animals have rights?

According to a video on  young turks, the Argentine Courts ruled in favor of an Sumatran orangutan named 'Sandra', who many animal rights activists claim she deserves to be recognized as a human.  Not an animal, but a human with rights to freedom.  Therefore, after 20 years of living in a zoo for entertainment purposes, she was finally set free to live in a nature sanctuary in Brazil.  What do you think?

Should be start thinking of animals as people?  Should animals have the same rights as us?   Also, what do you think about zoos and circuses?  Great idea for entertainment with the family?  Or nothing more than commercialized garbage that promotes animal cruelty?  Please discuss.

Of course we should abolish zoos and circuses for animal rights.  Cattle ranches, dairies and chicken farms can follow, as well as turkey farms and fish hatcheries.

When we're through there we can set free all pets, to die of starvation and disease in the streets; animals have rights, too!  Pet snakes and the boys ant farm must all go, and speaking of ant farms any insecticides must be banned from farm and home.  Cougars, wolves and other predators must be given free rein to wander city streets; if we can, so should animals.  All hunting must cease, at least until we declare open season on people, too.

Mice and rat traps have to go, and the moles in the yard left strictly alone.  Those termites on the foundation get to stay, as do the squirrels in the attic and the bees in the eaves.  When the copperheads nest in the yard, leave them alone - animals have rights, too.

There must be a balance between inhumane practices of killing most wildlife since 1970s and the production of food.

There is, but it doesn't start with "animals have the same rights as humans".

I'm a proud member of PETA, (People Eating Tasty Animals).

Chances are, you are too!  (Note: even if vegan, but still benefiting from animal products in any way, or negatively impacting animals for your benefit as described by Wilderness above, you are an honorary member).

It’s very sad the lack of laws to protect animals and habitats. Due to lack of knowledge of the existence of all the species. It’s the worst thing I can imagine, humans are far over rated.

      Thanks for the thread
