What is the little number in your profile picture?

   This is my second try at posting this question. I thought maybe my first post was held for moderator approval, but it's been a few days and I can't find any sign of it - trying again.
   
   When you post, there is a small number in the lower right corner of your profile picture. I see that my number has increased a bit since I started, from 55 to 60. What does it mean?
   
   I gather it measures something. Participation? Ratings from others?
   
   How important is it?
   
   By the way, I have checked the FAQ and couldn't find any info on it.

      It is your hubber score, a compilation of factors that result in an overall score - factors that are known only to HP.  Unless you are using HP to drive traffic to other sites (there is a minimum score necessary to have your links "follow" rather than "no-follow") it isn't important at all and should be ignored.

   I agree with Wilderness that you shouldn't let the hubber score affect you. It goes up and down with your activity in the forums, comments you make on hubs, the amount of traffic you get to your articles, and your hub scores.

   Okay, so now that I know that it's the hubber score, I do recall seeing that mentioned in the FAQ. I know you said not to be concerned about it, but I would like to know what makes it go up and down. I'm just getting started (started writing my first article today, haven't edited/published it yet), but yes, eventually I will want my links to be followable.

   As mentioned by Marie, 'It goes up and down with your activity in the forums, comments you make on hubs, the amount of traffic you get to your articles, and your hub scores.' Don't worry, you will rock.

   Besides, a Hubber Score of 61 is decent. Try to write engaging articles. Don't follow people of dubious reputation, and never leave bad comments. Trust me, I almost left a bad comment on another person's profile, but I consulted the wonderful world of HubPages, and they've helped me fix that problem.

   Ivan, I'm too new to even worry about my score yet. I am wondering if they start everyone at 50? Maybe everyone gets 50 just for creating an account? Or 55, which is where mine was at when I first saw it?
   I see that my score is down to 60 now, from the 61 you mentioned. Maybe because I didn't answer as many questions yesterday as I did the day before? Or maybe someone didn't like one of my answers?
   
   I cannot obsess about losing one point, but when I get time, I do want to read up on this.
   
   Finally finished the first draft of my first article after spending most of today on it. I still need to confirm a couple bits of info, then edit and try to steamline it. Then it's back to the Learning Center to make it fit the Style Guide and rules and format it for publishing... yeesh, a lot of work for an article that I thought I could write in an hour or two!

   It's wonderful that you are doing much work to make your article qualitative. I'm sure it will fetch you good result. Don't worry, all are very helpful here. Whenever you are stuck, post a discussion in the forum. Another tip I could give you as a newcomer is that don't use images without legal permission. Use images that have cco (creative common license). Otherwise the article doesn't clear the quality process. Use websites like pixabay and pexels for images.
