Does altering a pit bull make them less dog aggressive?
Yes, if you shoot it in the head it won't bother or mame and kill anyone again!
It isn't the pit bull that is aggressive, it is the owner. I had pit bulls and many other kinds of dogs, cats, birds, kids, and I never had a problem with any of my pits acting aggressively.
It will have effect on your male pit. In many ways. I always recomend "fixing" a dog, as breeding needs to be controlled, and done by pro's. However, do not expect "social grace" to be among the "changes" that you pit will undergo. Socializing is the key to eliminating dog aggression. Socializing being going to the dog park. Lots of interaction with other dogs. Not the same dog, or two, but many. You will find this a little challenging, as most of my pits, 7 total now, seem to recognize their own breed, and will prefer to single out other pits for play. And, another aspect of dog aggression would be "control." I started a hub, entitled "american stafford shire bull terriers," which highlights what you pit is looking for from you, in order to gain his respect, thus control over him
Altering a dog has zero affect on curbing aggressiveness. It can have an affect on marking and escaping, but was long ago proven that it doesn't help with aggressiveness. Most police dogs are not fixed because of ego problems with officers but the few that are fixed perform equally as well.

Pit Bull Terriers as Pets - Yes or No - and most importantly - WHY, especially if you answered yes?I personally am against having Pit Bulls as pets (especially for a family with children) for the very simple reason of “instinctive trait”. Pit Bulls were selected and groomed to be fighting dogs...

Despite the fact that many people claim that pit-bulls are given a bad reputation and that they are in fact loving dogs, the fact remains that they were bred specifically as fighters and to be aggressive. Just as golden retrievers are genetically very calm dogs, pit-bulls are genetically violent...

Who's the problem? The pit bull or the owner?Should it be illegal to ban all fighting dogs? It's in they're instinct to ravage and Mail anything smaller than them especially if it darts past their line of vision! Would you rather see behavioural therapy? Or training classes more available for both...

I have to admit I am one of those people who are scared of pit bulls. However, as an animal lover I also know this is an unfounded fear, and that any pit bulls that I have came in contact with have been the sweetest dogs ever! So when I read yahoo 's article about the "nanny dogs" I...

7 year old Tanner Monk was killed by 2 pit bulls in Texas last week. Another sad tale in the long history of pit bulls. I just had to write a completely factual hub about pit bulls and their history. Tanners death is no joke, what is a joke is not having laws banning these menaces...
