I'd skip the machine and just get a good set of dumbbells and an exercise ball.

When the weather permits I love to run, but have a bad knee that can cause issues sometimes...so an elliptical machine would be so awesome to have! I have a pretty decent treadmill that I use when it's too hot, too cold, or too late to go outside, but it gets awfully loud when I run and is tough on the knees. Ellipticals also offer a little more resistance along with lower impact, so I get a really awesome workout from them in a lot less time.

Regardless of which machine, I'd still supplement it with my toning workouts. I use a balance disk and resistance cord along with exercises targeted at specific muscle groups, which does a really good job of sculpting and keeping flab away...and takes up very little space, which is a definite plus.

A nice pair of sneakers. Personally I cannot do the same work out over and over, nor for that matter I really don't "work out" on a regular basis, yet I think I am in very good physical shape. What I do instead of going to the gym is pursuing hobbies that keep me physically active. I like to go on hikes, I keep a garden, any daily chore that I can use as a "work out", I treat it as such. This way I am getting in shape by doing things that are fun or that I already have to do and I never have to devote time specifically to "working out".

I would have a machine that would transport me into another body,
Also I would have an extention fitted on that Machine to enable me to have a personality transplant to go with said new body.

And if that wasn't poss, then I would have to be real, and ask for a time machine to take me back to better times, when people really cared, and people and comunity mattered.
Elderly folks could walk in the street after dark. And Kids did'nt have Kids.
Oh now look what you've done. you've got me spouting
    Good question.

I'm with wychic - I screwed my knee lifting weights and use an eliptical cross trainer set up in a spare room in front of a TV with DVD play.  I find it so boring running on the spot that the TV takes your mind off what you are doing and 30 minutes can go by like no time at all.

What is up with people at HP, I just cant understand anymore.. They just seem to use the power to mark negatively because it is their right or so they think.
I just want to tell all of you who have answered the question that I really appreciate your answers and see that all of you have a valid point  to make.
I am seriously looking up Ellipticals and dumbbells.. thank you so much...and I honestly appreciate this. Sorry about the negative marking though sad

I would buy an elliptical because it burns more calories for the same amount of effort as a treadmill and it is less jolting on your body. Especially less impact on your knees which I personally had to have surgery on one for doing a high impact exercise while too tired and tore the meniscus.

Weights are a great way to go as well but there are so many beneficial ones like bowflex however elliptical builds muscle and is great cardio which is key to being healthy. So I say go with the elliptical.
