Disassociate yourself from the habit. Develop some new ones. Change friends if they support your habits.

I have written many great ways that helped me, but the most important thing is that you must WANT to kick the habit and if you do, then you need to start thinking with a Positive Attitude and keep telling yourself that you can and will beat this addiction. I never thought I could do it and I did by these two simple ways.

Believe and you will Achieve !!!
All the best to you, and never give up on yourself and you will accomplish what you have set out to do.

Leave him or her! Get some good counselling. Find some good support, whatever that shape may take and change absolutely everything about how you live, have fun, and love.
At least thats how it felt to me. Actually getting into recovery was one of the best things I ever did! Love and blessings, Caroline xxx

I have a personal belief that addiction is a choice.  I think certain personalities have more of a tendency toward addiction.  But I also believe that focusing on the opposite of being addicted to something (ie maintaining a healthy lifestyle) helps one to overcome the addiction.

I know this from personal experience, too.

Make the decision to quit, then follow through by changing your habits.  Any habit that you associate with what you are trying to give up needs to go.  For instance, people who try to quit smoking should quit doing those things that they would have had a cigarette with... such as drinking coffee or alcohol.  Replace bad habits with new and good ones.  Don't chastise yourself for any slip-ups, just pick yourself up and try again.  It takes time to break habits and enforce new ones in yourself.

What I believe is with  own will. It is possible but usually the person in case secretly doesn't want to give up the addiction. They won´t admit it, but truly in the subcontinent mind that addiction has its own "benefit".

I overcame smoking by understanding why I was smoking and really wanting to give up.  I said to myself "I can do it", and every time I wanted to light up a cigarette, I was somehow stopping myself. But until somebody else (boyfriend) wanted me to give up, it was "impossible"...

Will power. The same applies for weight loss (food addiction) and everything else.
There are gimmicks which are supposed to help, and some very well may do, but all in all it comes down to that person's will.
