why do we care so much about prisoners rights?
to me , if you end up doing something that gets you put in prison, one of the drawbacks should be your rights as a citizen are gone. no T.V., no awesome food, no games to play and you should have to work all the time. if we made prison life harder i think it would help deter more criminals.
@sree1987: If they have been found guilty in a duly appointed court of law, they deserve to forfeit any rights they may have. Here in South Africa criminals are treated better, and are better cared for by the State, than most of our pensioners are. Pensioners who have contributed a life time of taxes and good responsible citizenship to their country. Sorry, but a criminal is not a human.
As far as I'm concerned, they can rot in tiny cold damp cells on sub-standard food, and do hard manual labour. No TV, no radio, no hot water, 1 blanket, no mattress, and the list can go on and on.
Human rights is acceptable. Criminal rights are not.
To answer this question, I don't care about criminals, at all.
to sree1987 and wingedcentaur,
i completely disagree with what you are saying though yes they are human beings, that much i will give you. see, i'm an exconvict and i have spent quite a bit of time in prison years ago so i'm speaking from experience. i use to laugh when people would say it must have sucked being in jail because other then the fact that i was locked away, prison life was pretty good, better then my life on the streets at the time. the biggest problem i believe with people, is they seem to think that criminals deserve to be treated well but then why would the average person care if they are in prison or not. keep in mind that though there are a few innocents behind bars, it is not the norm and many of the prisoners have done horrible things to get there. at some point we have to say enough is enough and i think when a person ends up committing crimes that effect the life of the average person , they have given up their right to be treated well.
Most people are in some type of bondage. It could be financial, physical, mental, emotionally or otherwise. When we speak out - it's like a prisioner behind bars yelling out his/her opinions of a person who we see are in a similar situation. We see a reflection of ourselves and speak out against it.

Should prison inmates be allowed to vote in elections?Criminals in jail are there because they choose to operate outside the limitations that society has designed in law. Is it right that we give those same criminals a say in how those rules are made and how society is run?

Is prison sentencing soft on criminals hard on society?Has softer punishments made society more dangerous and do criminals still fear going to prison? Are there any workable alternatives or should we just accept the situation as it is?

If a man commits a crime and sentenced to prison, he is sentenced to much more: sexual assault, physical assault, malnutrition, lack of medical care, pain, lack of mental health care and isolation from society. Of all the above, the only thing actually mandated by law is segregation...

I just noticed something about the Fast and Furious controversy.Leaving aside the question of whether the operation was a good idea or not (I think not), I noticed that the Left and the Right have both seemed to flip-flop on their usual arguments about gun control. The Left usually wants to restrict...
