If you got to balance the federal budget, what programs would you cut?

Where would you start cutting? Medicare? Medicaid? Planned Parenthood? Social Security? Defense? Programs for the poor? Health care?

Welfare for the rich like gasoline subsidies.Close corporate tax loopholes and the like.Have Health Insurance companies payback  their customers  for staying healthy for so long. If,you subsidize anything it must make economic sense to do so!

Social aecurity money has been robbing those who pay into it.All they have been doing is borrowing money to pay for the benefits they pay out by using a very small percentage of the social security money to pay interest on those loans. It's like you and I trying to payoff our creditcard debt by making the minimum payment. It will never get paid.I t will in fact become bigger as time goes by.That's what they have been doing to the fund.

I would cut the salaries of the elected officials that sit in the House and Senate.  Their salaries are ridiculous.  I would not touch Medicare but Medicaid would get some serious revamping.  I work in the mental health industry and the bulk of clients are medicaid and having talked with many of them, they basically consider services free.  I hesitate to tell them that it might seem free to them but my tax dollars are paying for it.

I think the programs are necessary to a point but we need to weed out the fraudulent cases.

And the bail out crap for people who deliberately bought homes they cannot afford and the banks the allowed it.  No more.

If you look at your paycheck stub, you will see that a portion of your check goes toward social security and a portion of it goes to the federal income. The social security is a special trust fund and so is not supposed to be included as part of the federal budget. So the idea of cutting that is ludicrous. We want to cut the federal budget only. With what is left, you can cut every last program that exits--education, healthcare, planned parenthood--you name it. Let's say you cut everything but defense spending. We will still be running a substantial deficit. Defense spending is the only thing that makes a real difference in the budget. Every king and every emperor throughout history has learned that to maintain the most powerful fleet and largest army with the most advanced weapons, great benefits, donatives, and pensions, one must levy heavy taxes on the ordinary citizens. The politicians ni our government know this, but most are hiding it. Our defense department and expensive wars are bankrupting our government; nothing else.

I would drastically cut the salaries of the elected officials sitting in their comfy chairs making all the decisions.  Then I'd take a look at the silly programs that federal money seems to go to that are completely ludicrous.  Then I'd have to revamp Medicaid because it truly needs to be reformed.  It's not a program you live off of forever, it's there to help you get back on your feet.  However, I knew a girl I worked with, who decided it was time to get pregnant again (#3) so she could quit and live off the system.  Guess what? she did.
