Anything that is enjoyable. I might not like it the next day, but for the moment, it is enough.

Good music to me is anything that I naturally react to in a positive way or has nostalgic value.  For example, I may start bobbing my head or looking up other songs by that artist if I hear a good piece of music.  Also, I may like a song for the memories I have attached to it.

For me the definition of a "good" song  or good music, is when a melody has the ability to make you feel a certain way. When the music can evoke specific emotions in you, that may be sad or joyous. I always feel connected with certain memories that I have associated with songs I love, and this is a very unique and often pleasurable experience. So, in other words: "good" music is capable of transcending simply sounds, and really becoming a part of your life and emotions.

Music that's well-structured, substantial and able in some way to surprise.

Good beats and/or good tunes don't hurt, either--but that gets us back to "well-structured, substantial and able in some way to surprise."

It's rather hard for me to say.  Sometimes it's lyrics, sometimes it's merely the sound.  I've got eclectic taste that runs from prog to punk to new wave to goth and on and on and on.

Top albums, I find myself going back to over and over

Wire's It's Beginning to and Back Again
    Rush's Grace Under Pressure
    The Church's Gold Afternoon Fix
    The Connell's One Simple Word
    Lou Reed's Berlin
    Blue Aeroplanes's Swagger
Bob Mould's Black Sheets of Rain
    Catherine Wheel's Adam & Eve
Devo's Q:  Are We Not Men A:  We Are Devo
    The Pixies's Dolittle
    Frank Zappa's The Grand Wazoo
    James's Whiplash
    Joy Division's  Closer
They Judybat's Down In the Shacks Where the Satellite Dishes Grow
    Midnight Oil's Breathe
    Mission of Burma's Vs
Modest Mouse's The Lonesome Crowded West
    Moving Units's Moving Units
    New Model Army's Eight
Poi Dog Pondering's Thinking Like A Mountain, Wishing Like the Sea
    Public Image Limited's 9
Red House Painters's Songs for a Blue Guitar
    Scrawl's Velvet Hammer
    Shriekback's Oil & Gold
    Sleater-Kinney's Call the Doctor
    Sonic Youth's Rather Ripped
    Squatweiler's New Motherstamper
    Steve Kilbey's Remindlessness
    Steve Wynn's Dazzling Display
Thinking Feller's Union Local 248's I Hope it Lands
    XTC's The Big Express

I just downloaded the Wild Flag stuff that is Brownstein's post-Sleater-Kinney work (along with her comedy Portlandia), I'm rather enjoying it.

For the past few years Wire's last few albums have been in heavy rotation, but 154 and the early single Dot Dash are still favorites.

My favorite band is The Church through the early 90s.  The stuff since then is hit or miss for me.  Untitled #23 does have some high points and is great live.

Sonic Youth (RIP) was always fun live and I liked the direction they were heading before they broke up, but I can still listen to the early noise and enjoy it.

I think I answered that by totally not answering it.

Music that motivates and inspires is good music.  I listen to anything from classical to country to hip hop dance music. I avoid hard rock and other music that tends to tear down and be destructive. Most rap also fits into the destructive mold that isn't worth spending time on.

Good Music? Well, i don't play favorites with music, I am pretty fluent in the listening styles from a to z. But Good? hmm. Well as long as they are catchy, can be sung to, or hummed to, and don't require you to tear out your eardrums to understand it, its good in my book. smile

I like a little jazz to relax after a long day.  I also like a little bit of R&B and anything that is upbeat and positive.

Everything other than country and hard-core opera. Can't stand either. I can do rockabilly. But not country. Which is ironic because I live in hillbilly hell. And one of my guilty pleasures is to listen to the Titanic soundtrack before I go to sleep, LOL!!!!

Anything that makes you personally happy, sad, pumped etc. I like to think of music of a way to show someones emotions. No matter the genre I listen to many genres even the not liked 'hard-core' genre I also enjoy indie, acoustic, alternative, classical rock. Everyone has a different opinion on music and what is good and what is bad.
