I don't know if it's a bank holiday weekend in the rest of the world, but it is here in the UK.
OH, Isaac and I have been spending the weekend at my parents' house in Kent, and are having a great time. It's been sunny and warm, and we've been assisting in the processing of vast, vast quantities of fruit and veg being harvested from my parents' garden. My Dad picked approx. 60lb of Victoria plums today, some of which have already been halved and frozen, others will become jam over the next couple of days.
And Isaac and I picked 30lb of tomatoes today (only a few green ones, he got the hang of it, eventually).
And my mother was on a cake baking drive for the village fete - she made 3 chocolate cakes, 4 Swiss rolls, a coffee and walnut cake, and a Victoria sponge. And she needed quality control analysis, which was a real chore.....
Hope you are all well and happy! I've been AWOL for a bit, nice to be back.
For us in the United States, next weekend is Labor Day, hence a 3-day weekend. We start out the summer with Memorial Day and end it all up with Labor Day.
Glad to have you back!
Ours starts with May 24 weekend (or around about there) which celebrates Queen Victoria's Birthday and we have Labour Day the same day as you do
Ah, for us, the last Monday in August is a bank holiday, hence this weekend, as tomorrow's the 31st August. And it normally rains hard on a bank holiday, but the weather's been lovely, instead!
What is Memorial Day remembering?
Memorial Day is when we remember those who died in military service.
Nice to see you again LG. I can get from Australia to London OK, and even get the bus to Kent, but tell me how do I get your mom to hand over some of those goodies!
By the way, congrats on picking all those tomatoes Isaac! When I pick fruit with my Gkids, they can be very indiscriminate when it comes to their choices! "I will explain again, we only want the red ones" is met with a variety of responses about nice green ones etc. It sounds like you had a wonderful time!
Thanks all - nice to be back!
I'm sure my Mama would be delighted to part with some. Isaac and I picked another 30lb of toms today, and 250-odd apples, and a mountain of carrots, runner beans, and beetroot. We also harvested some spuds, corn on the cob, onions, garlic, and chillis, for dinner.
She's looking a bit over-whelmed! One of my sisters worked her way through 20 2lb bags of plums, which are now all safely stashed in the freezer, and roasting and pureeing tomatoes continues apace.
I thought you'd gone missing for a while, LG. Hope you are enjoying your holiday, and welcome back,
Welcome back, we missed you.
Next weekend is a long weekend here, Labour Day.
It's a 3-day weekend here in the Philippines, too - commemoration of National Heroes' Day...love bank holiday - when we were there we went to Liverpool and attended the music festival. Miss UK!

I should probably know the answer to this by now seeing how long I've been here but do Hubpages pay out as normal on bank holidays? Obviously, it's the 28th today which is the usual pay date but it's also Easter monday. Just wondering if I can expect a payment today? Thanks.

What does Memorial Day mean to the rest, who are not Military or have lost someone in the Service?Watching as many War and Military Movies as possible on this Memorial Day. I just have memories and faint stories of members who have served in earlier Wars, defending our Great Nation. ...

Just a reminder - traffic often drops over this weekend. So if you see a big plummet, it's just all the people going away from their computer and into the real world
