Why is it that everyone rushed to write about the death of Whitney Houston?
While the passing of Davey Jones hasn't received a word, I was just curious what everyone thinks.
Sadly, even those who are beautiful and talented have demons they need to battle. Some of them win and some don't. read more
Whitney was a Five star singer who also succeeded as an actress. People literally followed her throughout her life, even when she wasn't working. While I am not a huge fan I will say she was likely the greatest singer of our time.
All of that aside there are so many writers in this country who are starving for a deep, dramatic story to write about. As one living organism they leaped on the story and in the spirit of competition and capitalism they attempted to write the better story.
Actually there has been quite a bit of media surrounding Jones' death since the Monkees have been around for decades. As far as Whitney Houston, I think it has more to do with having a wider audience group than the Monkees.
I personally think the hype surrounding Whitney Houston's death is because of her history with drugs, abuse, etc... Its sensationalism at its finest.
There has been some coverage of Davey Jones' death, but not as much as Whitney Houston. We are further removed from Davey's glory days, so there is less immediacy about his death.
Rest in peace, Davey Jones.
I agree with MusickLover about Whitney Houston being written about more than The Monkees. Teen idols rarely capture public fervor past their prime unless they have the rare ability to stay as iconic as they did in their Teen and Tiger Beat days. Davy Jones had his issues but didn't really capture alot of attention beyond an occasional reunion tour.
Whitney Houston was a megastar and while she didn't have the same type of impact with her music in recent years, her issues and her comeback were always on the back of people's minds. That and her voice, obviously.
I admit it, I loved the Monkees during their prime. I think Whitney Houston's death was more shocking because no one really knows the cause and she was so young (even though in my eyes 66 is too young to die!)
I agree though, there is no equality in the media.
Whitney's death was sudden, shocking, tragical, emotional, and very thought provoking. It was also the kind of subject that would attract readers. Whitney was NOW, but Davy was THEN.
Davy Jones has not been in the big lights for a while, has he? His old fans are probably too busy with their dementia and arthritis to give much attention. I was a fan of the Monkees, but I did not know that Davy was dead. Sad.
Its the most recent shocking event. Pearsonaly I think they need to let Whitney rest in peace and not continue the negitave gossip about her and her famliy rather what there saying is true or not she isnt here to defend herslef and I dont think its fair to drag her name through the mudd as the press is doing.
How was Whitney Houston's death shocking? She was a crack addict for years and years. As far as crackheads are concerned, she lived longer than most.
Yes it is sad, but she messed up her own life and died. She's not the first and won't be the last.

Did Whitney Houston commit suicide or was it simply an accident?Whitney's fast departure from our world has brought tremendous turmoil. Do you think her death was an accident as a result of her drug habit or did she in fact know what she was doing when she drowned in the bathtub?
