Who is a better goalie, Henrik Lundqvist or Martin Brodeur??

Although Brodeur holds just about every goaltending record in the NHL, his career is coming to an end and Henrik Lundqvist has proven himself season after season.  Not only does Lundqvist have a better record against Brodeur, if he keeps his high level of play up, he may surpass Marty.

That's a tough question.  You're comparing a guy in his prime to a guy in his twilight.  Marty Brodeur is likely the best goalie to ever strap on the pads.  Brodeur has two Stanley Cups, 4 William M. Jennings Trophies, and 4 Vezina Trophies.  He's turning 39 next month, and he's still a number one goalie in the NHL.  Only Dwayne Roloson has him beat there.

Lundqvist is probably the best goalie in the NHL right now, and he'll probably win his first Vezina this season, but he's yet to take even one Stanley Cup.  He's still young, and he'll likely get one or more before his career is over, but he's already well behind Brodeur's pace towards becoming the best goalie in history.

Parentsreview: Yes Mary has 4 Stanley Cups and Henrik has yet to earn one but don't you think that has a lot to do with the team that is playing around the goaltender???  Marty has been more than blessed with great Devils teams that are made up of hall of famers throughout the years.

Until this season, Lundqvist has had to carry a lot of the weight of the Rangers team on his own two legs.  Lundqvist may be behind Marty's pace but who's to say pace has anything to do with end results?  Henrik could have three crazy good seasons (behind the right group of players) and be right back on pace to squash Marty's record.

I agree and think Henrik is going to get his first Vezina Trophie this season but disagree when you say "get one or more before his career is over".  I think Henrik's got at least three more before he is done.  Only time will tell ;-)

To tell you the truth after this year its Jonathan Quick who gets my vote. For 4 years in LA he was a no name honing his craft. In Junior he was a sensation so watch out for him and let us not forget other great goalies. Mike Smith in Arizona who plays for the Yotes or Roberto Luongo for Van, even though are prime examples of quality tenders. Way far TOOOOOO many good goalies in the NHL to compare who's best. A lot of teams go with the 2 goalie system also.  HOWEVER for longevity, and talent per annum you can't beat Marty unless your Terry Sawchuk. His record far surpassed either gent named.

After watching playoff hockey, I totally agree with the Jonathan Quick vote. Being a Rangers fan, I hardly ever watch West Coast hockey, unless the Rangers are playing them. There are a lot of good goalies but the question was between Marty and Hank
