Why is it considered inappropriate to drink alcohol early in the day?
Maybe because it is considered more shamefull and rude. Everyone around you for the rest of the day will have to be around you while intoxicated. That is rude to them and insulting. Also, it is a sign that you are not happy with your life.
Drinking alcohol is usually done with others as a way to relax after work, before dinner, or at social events. Typically there is no reason to drink early in the day unless at an occaisional social brunch. Some business lunches involve cocktails, but even this can be unwise. Drinking alcohol impairs one's ability to work or drive efficiently. Doing so results in a lack of motivation. In fact, making a habit of day-long drinking is a recipe for disaster: no success, no job, no solid relationships, poor self-esteem, depression, and premature aging.
I supposed it's viewed that you are affecting your brain early in the day or that you actually have a problem.
I rarely drink because I drive so much. I think most people take the view that one drink leads to another and so on.
In Europe you rarely see people drunk. It is viewed as unacceptable unlike some other countries were it is just the norm,
MJ.
I know habits are different in the UK and Europe re. ales and wine, but meals are also less hurried, work days shorter, and there are fewer people behind the wheel.

Do you have to drink alcohol to have a good time? Why?I don't like to drink, yet so many people I know have to drink to have a good time, even avoiding doing certain things if they can't drink. Are you like that? Why?

Why is the legal age to drink 21 in the majority of USA?When the legal age to join the military is 18, the legal age to consent to sex is 16, the legal age to buy pornography and lottery is 18, and the legal age to be held responsible for a signed contract (credit card/house purchase) is 18.
