   Do you take off from work on your or your partner's birthday?
   
   My senior lead developer said he never works on his birthday and suggested me same. It was too late to ask for leave, so I took sick leave on my b'day but it was to make my partner happy rather than for myself as I don't celebrate much.
   Now it's my wife's b'day tomorrow and she became unhappy that I have work tomorrow. I have sent leave request, hopefully it will be approved.
   Do you work on your or your partner's birthday?

   Not normally, depends on what day of week either falls and if it is a "biggie", eg 30th or 40th birthday. I have taken annual vacation time at my partner's birthday and we have celebrated in foreign soil a number of times.

   Not normally. This year, I suppose my girlfriend's birthday fell on a holiday, so that worked itself out. But our vacation days are scarce... trying to get together enough days to take a week together is usually more important than birthdays, which we aren't all that big on.

   Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. It depends on whether or not there are any special plans. I don't like to burn up a day of leave just sitting around doing nothing! I actually at one time worked for a company that recognized birthdays as holidays. You could take your birthday off or take it another day if you wished. The older I get, the less of a big deal it is for myself so as time marches on, I take less of them off.

   My husband's job offeres a floating holiday. So each year he uses his birthday as the holiday. For my birthday we go on vacation every year so he's always off for mine also. And a vacation day is used for the day of each child's birthday party if he is scheduled to work.

   No. If my birthday comes during the week, I work like an honest individual should. The same for my partner. He knows the true birthday part will arrive when he comes home. I have never heard of someone taking off for their birthday and I would consider them foolish and selfish for doing so. They have plenty of other birthdays to celebrate.
