Is Drew Brees worth his new contract - 100 M USD for 5 years?

Drew Brees is one of the elite quarterback in the NFL, no doubt about it. His contract with the New Orleans Saints which was finalized only this month, July 2012 is substantial and I think he deserved it. He gives to charity and his stats as a QB is amazing.

What do you think about this, is it worth it? He is only 33 years old, and he can give more to the team.

He is the highest paid QB now and he will get 40 M USD on the first year and the remaining 80 Million dollar for the remaining four years.

Is he worth it isn't necessarily the question. Have these contracts gotten "WAY OUT OF HAND" is the problem. And yes, In my opinion they have.

Comparing to what the NFL org gets, I do give more to the players whose life is at stake! At least Brees gives back to charity! Thank you!

He puts fans in otherwise empty seats.  He has one ring.  He's approaching HOF stats.  With the Bounty scandal putting Sean Peyton on leave; he's now the face of the team.  I don't see a reason to say no.

Absolutely.  What he does for the Saints goes way past the playing field.  It goes even further past the business of football.  So many lives were ruined by Hurricane Katrina.  The fact that he lifted that city all the way up to the championship is almost supernatural.  In terms of marketability, he's probably worth over double his contract throughout the next five years.

The same thing goes with basketball, which is why the Knicks have been criticized so much for letting Jeremy Lin go.  He would have tripled his contract.

To JThomp, it's not that the players are demanding more money.  It's the natural progression of revenue, which is understandable considering the constant rise of popularity since each of the four major sports' distinctive eras have come and gone.
