Is it worth the trouble to create and maintain a blog for a business?
It depends upon what your business is, but in general I would say yes. Blogs improve your customer relationship and help you to share news and policies. You can keep information about upcoming sales, talk about new products or services you might be offering, and receive feedback on your business.
I would say Yes. You're able to speak with your customers and they will get to know you as long as you write the blog posts just how you feel. Other than video, I believe this to be one of the best ways to connect with people. Also, you can always add a video of you talking, that way your readers will get to know your personality. I don't know if you require leads for your business, but if you do, blogging is also a good way to get them.
Back in 2000, I wrote 2 websites for small businesses. Although antiquated, they are still online because they give new customers an easy way to look at products and services. A blog is not a steep learning curve and unless you're chasing the number one spot on the search engines, you really only need to blog occasionally to keep it up to date.
So yes, I think it's worth the trouble. It's kind of fun, too.
I think companies should have websites, it they do nothing more than give name, address, phone number and an idea of what product or service they offer. It the company wants to use it to promote sales or special promotions that is fine.
I think company blogs are a waste of time. I do not read any. I do not want to hear discussions among disgruntle customers that will accomplish little. I do not want to hear the company president pontificate on what he thinks is important, etc.
I do not go to company Facebook pages. Give me one site, one address where I can go to get the information I need about the company and leave the blogging to the people who are experts on everything and the people who think that all the experts do not know what they are talking about.
I agree with you, Larry. Those 2 sites were informational only. What I meant by "blog occasionally to keep it up to date" was add content to offer updated information about products or services.
I agree that updating is important and if you update in a blog, that is most likely accessed through the website, then I have no problem with that. I was referring to stand-alone blogs.
Thank you so much for everyone's ideas and input, sounds like I should probably create one, I have an alternative health consultation business and was thinking if I should create a blog or not.

If I create my own blog website am I allowed to use the articles I have posted in hubpages? Has anyone made this transition and is it worth it?

About a month ago I wrote a Hub about pyramids, those big things in Egypt. It hasn't done nearly as well as I thought it would. I took a closer look at it today and it had a warning message on the top of it, that my Hub appears to be about pyramid schemes and may be moderated. No...

Should people stop celebrating Valentine's Day? Is it worth the trouble?

I've been spending more time looking for places to get backlinks. I noticed that some news sites, once you make an account, also give you a free blog in your profile. Short of like in myspace.Do links in those blogs give enough clout to be worth it? I know your not ever going to get any direct...

I just wondered whether you can get consistent traffic to a blog that isn't about a particular topic (without having coerce friends and family!).
