Do Americans generally accept that their Government has become fascist and repressionist
Do Americans generally believe that their Government is acting in their best interest & representing the founding principles of the country correctly both domestically and on the world stage.
The ones who still do are totally out of touch and prefer to close their eyes to the sad reality of what is happening and what America has become. They call America "the best country" in the world and consider themselves patriots. I would hope that the vast majority knows better even if they do not openly say so
Thanks Petra, it is most interesting to hear your views since America is made up entirely of emigrants and my impression is that the majority are largely silent on this matter.
Especially immigrants are silent because they are afraid to be label anti-American; that will happen the minute you point out that there are problems with the American "democracy" Other than that "free speech" is still alive and well
It depends--some people do and some don't. While most people probably feel that the U.S. is not, they probably also disagree about what should be done about it.
In the U.S., while lip service is paid to our ideals, realism almost always trumps idealism, and has throughout human history.
No government on the planet acts in its people's best interests. Compared to other nations, we do not have a fascist government. Our government and politicians do yearn to be fascists and will do what they can to get away with whatever they can. Ours is a nation ruled by corporations and administered by lawyers, so most of our evil deeds are underhanded, subtle, and unknown by the public. The acts of police spraying female protesters with mace and beating college students are never shown on the corporate-controlled media. I think about 1/4 of Americans think we're are actually doing good in the world. The rest either don't know anything or realize that we are destroying other countries for our own interests.
Thanks for the comment, this is an interesting way of looking at it, perhaps then with the rise of social media the average person will become more aware. In time this could bring more accountability.
Perhaps, but I doubt it will last. Look at what happened to WikiLeaks when it almost made governments unable to function clandestinely. The corporate-controlled payment avenues kept it from receiving funding. Now politicians want to kill that guy.
I don't think most Americans think that way. They just argue back and fourth about the President being a Republican or a Democrat. No one really sits down to ask How much power does the President of the U.S. really have?
I think you have about 25% that agree, 25% that disagree, and 50% that don't really pay attention or care either way.

Why do so many Americans hate America? And if they hate it so much why don't they just leave? One thing that really bothers me is the way some Americans seem to hate everything about America. I'd just like to ask them: "If you hate everything about the country you live in then why are you...
