   Does anybody watch, or care about, the political conventions? Do they matter anymore?
   
   The Republicans are on this week; the Democrats next week. Do these conventions matter anymore? Is it merely rhetoric, or is there some substance to the speeches, whether the nominee or party stars? Will the Obama and the Democrats get a better 'bump up' because they follow the Republicans? Should we forget about the individual party propaganda and look to the presidential debates for greater substance. Maybe even that is a moot point. Your thoughts

   I always watch both conventions if at all possible. The speeches are important because sometimes those are the future leaders of the party. Obama in 2004?
   
   Plus, sometimes the speeches are pretty good. Sometimes they're not...
   
   Both parties usually get a bump and I don't think it matters who goes first. Some people will be seeing the players for the first time and can start making up their minds about who to vote for.

   I never watch the conventions but this year the DNC is in my very own town of Charlotte NC so I will be paying some attention due to all the media it has been getting for the last 1.5 years.  Rumor has it that Bill Clinton, Oprah, Obama and 2 senators are staying about 3 miles from my house.  I do not live in a fancy neighborhood but 3 miles from me is the fancy area where they are staying.

      Yes there are some road closings and it is estimated that there will be a 2 hour delay in the area every day, all week. I am on vacation this week so I will miss the commuting to work part.
