   Open Heart Surgery via chest cavity or through groin area?
   
   If you had to have heart surgery would you do the old method, open heart with stiches, or let them use a new method and go thru your groin, and impant a device?

   Mismazda,
   Your question is a good question and a straightforward one. Whether or not one receives an approach for surgery that requires an "open heart" method or procedure, depends upon the surgery required and upon the judgement of the doctor (or the surgical team) doing the procedure. If a device can be placed in the heart, via a vessel at the groin, that will solve the "surgical or medical" problem, then it would be best to pursue this  procedure rather that to undergo open-heart surgery. However, sometimes more elaborate surgical procedures (such as heart transplants) are required in order to resolve a serious cardiac problem. In a case such as this one, and there are other examples, open-heart surgery is the only recourse, that is, the only option for the resolution.

   I had an angiogram through the groin with catheter up to the heart ( awake!). If I had to have surgery, I would always opt for the quickest time under anaesthetic and this is usually keyhole route or less invasive route. The recovery time tends to be quicker too. I just had a kidney removed by keyhole surgery.

   I have personally had the new method. Following a heart attack, I had an angiogram, where they went in through an inch cut on my wrist. They saved my life through this little cut by putting 2 stents into my heart to re - open my arteries. A few short years before and it would have been open heart surgery for me ! I was out of hospital the next day! I am forever grateful to the dedication of these Doctors and thank my lucky stars everyday that I didn't get opened up. So definately if I had a choice I would go for this procedure every time.

   the thing about open heart is just that/your heart is visible to the naked eye of your surgeon and the team
   now, a stent is used if and when there are 1)few blockages to arteries leading to your heart
   2) chances of repair in shorter time is higher than if there are several blockages or blockages so large that a stent will not fit and then vein(s) from your leg or mammary must be used to graft or go 'around' the blockage
   it isnt so much your choice of what youd Rather have done than as the best way to open the arteries leading to your heart
   Let your surgeon and cardiologist lead the recovery for your heart,they wont deliberately do something that you wont benefit from having it done to you

   Golly - through the groin area?  That sounds splendidly grotesque!  I would say that in this case, Mazda, it would be best to let a medical professional choose the safest, most efficient option.

      Well going thru the groin will the quickest...and they stated that a lot of ppl use this method because of the recovery time being less than 4 to 6 weeks..like maybe a week. Thanks for answering
