   Real football simple as that !!!
   It is kinda from the old school ways, And although the rules, money and loss of fair play these days, British football has still got that Upfront ,stiff British lip, reputation, hard tough and fair , the way any sport should be played, I'm not saying it's still like that but the legend lives on.
   That sort of my quick penny's worth

      What about the Football League? Good old fashioned football without the glamour of the Premier and without the same old teams dominating every year.

   EPL always had a few games on everywhere in the world. I remember watching soccer games from EPL on Sundays here in Canada back 15 years ago. Thats when there were no dedicated football channels for us, TSN and ESPN wouldn't even show highlights of soccer games.

      Glad that somebody mentioned the English aspect. That, for me is one of the key reasons why it has soared in popularity, because the names of the clubs and players sound vaguely familiar to fans say in the US and Canada.

      I can understand why people say that. But personally I prefer the Championship, anyone can beat anyone, its totally unpredictable, the promotion and relegation races are exciting, then there's the playoffs. Awesome!

      JKenny  that is so true about the Championship it can be anyone's,  and I had the pleasure of watching Bristol City destroy Cardiff last month from the directors Box It was brilliant !!! I don't even support City ( i'm gas long story)

   There are many reasons (you may find them in a hub I wrote recently!) which range from the mundane to the profound.
   
   The football itself -  English football has always contained the Beauty and the Beast! Nowhere else in the world can you watch week in week out the ugly try to wipe out the beautiful. It's incredible. Flair players have always been produced in England but so have brute defenders - it's this tension between the two that produces excitement on a dramatic level. You get this in all leagues world wide but in England you get it most weekends! The consistent quality is unmatched anywhere. The top clubs rarely get an easy game in the EPL, it's so competitive.
   
   For example last season the title was won  by Manchester City on the very last day! They had to score 3 against a mediocre team. But in contention for the title were Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal, with Spurs and Newcastle making up the top six. That's a minimum of four top clubs vying for first prize. This happens almost every season.
   In Spain it's Barca and Real, Italy have the Milans, Germany have Bayern & Borussia, France well, Lyon, Marseille,PSG.....
   
   In addition you have a core of die hard passionate supporters who follow their clubs everywhere and make a lot of noise!! This creates super atmospheres at a large majority of games. If you've been to a top EPL game you'll know all about why England is the home of football.
   
   Players - whilst Spain arguably has the 3 top players in La Liga
   the EPL easily outnumbers other leagues when it comes to quality internationals on show - from every continent. So fans will be keen to watch their favourites every week - from Clint Dempsey to Van Persie, Aguero to Julio Caesar!
   
   Popularity of the EPL has increased enormously since the early 1990's. Commercialisation has rocketed and the brand is known throughout t.v. land for quality, excitement and all round drama.
   
   Yes the English language does help!! But the business plan is a good one! The EPL is likely to maintain it's position as No 1 provider of live football.

      Great answer, yet it surprises me that nobody seems bothered by the fact that only 5 teams have won it in 20 years, yes I agree that's it competitive compared to other leagues, but the top flight was far more competitive prior to 1992.

      In the last twenty years of the old English Division 1 there were 6 winners only! I think the bottom line is, when you compare the EPL to other major leagues match competition is toughest week by week. I'm not sure how you would measure it!!

      Although this is true, since 2004, only Barca and Madrid have won La Liga whereas City, United, Chelsea and Arsenal have all won the EPL in this time.

   language and media exposure , were stated and are the biggest reasons but were already given.
   I will state the lack of willingness to taste unknown waters in the media sphere. Look at the bundesliga. Germany is the wealthiest state in western europe. Their stadiums are filled, they play exciting soccer.
   But, it is german. Modern audiences follow the leader more than in the past. The media says, the EPL is the best league in the world. millions do a search for the EPL and not soccer.
   In the USA people talk about European soccer and forget that south american soccer is just a valid place to develop a player. But, you have to take a taste.
   When books first came out, people had to try new authors. today, modern readers rarely try new authors in percentages as large as the past. In the same way, they dont try different leagues.

      Another great answer. I actually enjoy the Bundesliga more than the EPL. Better crowds, atmosphere, more home grown players, better financial health and greater competitiveness amongst the teams.

      Yes, one thing too, is the amount of top international players in EPL. Bundesliga has top crowds, good fiscal condition, more competitiveness, but they are also getting more international talent.

      I don't think this has improved the league, if anything I'd want more homegrown talent. People don't watch the league for quality - La Liga and Serie A can do that - they watch it for the controversy, surprises and the British Bull Dog spirit

   I think that it has something to do with the quality throughout the table in England. Even the bottom dwellers still feature great players and would be competitive in any league in the world. A great example of this is Fulham from a few seasons ago. A club that is generally within the top-ten in England but by no means a perennial power-house nearly won the Europa League. En-route to the final they disposed of Juventus and Wolfsburg, two storied teams from other top European leagues. While other leagues feature top teams and players, the depth of the English Premier League from top to bottom (in terms of the quality of teams and players) is unmatched anywhere else in the world. In some cases this can be attributed to money (clubs like Manchester city, Manchester united, and Chelsea have great buying power in the transfer market), but clubs such as Everton, Newcastle, and West Bromwich Albion produce great results and quality football with small budgets.

    If you want me to answer this simply then I would say because of the competitiveness. I already told about this at one of my hub in English Premier League doesn't matter if top of the table playing with a team which is fighting for avoiding the relegation, the game will be still competitive. That's the main reason, if you see Barca playing with Getafe then you are almost sure that Barca is going to win but how much will be the margin that's the question. Because in Spanish league its two horses race Barcelona and Real Madrid although last season Atletico Madrid did well. Talk about bundesliga, bayern munich is the king they win the league almost every time. Italian Serie A has Juventus. But in Premier League there is not a supreme team few years ago Manchester United was great, Liverpool was great at once now Manchester City is a top team but there are not any kind of team which is dominating. There were very few times when a team retained the title. Premier League table most of the time is very tight.

    I think the main reason the English Premier league is so popular is because besides having many international superstars it's more competitive than its rivals ,Spain,France,Germany, and Italy.
