Is it expensive to make an own website?

and is it also a risk to make one (-> hackers etc). I don't mean a blog. I mean a site, where I can publish poems, articles, whatever. Any suggestion where one would have to start?

There are alot of places to create a Free website, and you can purchase your own domain name if you wish, such as Host Gator, Word Press, Wix, Weebly and others.

A blog doesnt mean a place to host your posts or something else. You can indeed post poems and articles.

If you need to go free and secure, better to use some free blogging platforms like Wordpress, Tumblr, Blogger etc.

Yahoo SiteBuilder was easy to use for me some years back, and their hosting service was very affordable, like $12/month or something.  You can reserve your URL for cheap, I think it was less than $25 per year but of course prices may change.

Once you explore some options you'll see that you can probably have a nice site for around $15 per month, if not even less depending on what you want included in that price.

It was a simple rip off for you to use Yahoo. You shall have received better features at half the price. You can register a domain for $5, .com domain, for a year. The best shared hosting solutions average $3-$7 per month.

Try Google.  You can create your own website free, but you need to buy domanin name, if you want your own www.  If you don't need it, Google will give you one free too.

I have 5 sites and none have been hacked so far. The main and most important cost is hosting which will run you about $60/year with security features included. Some hosting plans come with a free domain just ensure that your domain name is locked. I have a hub entitled "choosing the best web host" you can check it out to get some insights.

You may also start with free sites like wordpress, blogger, and wix which will host your site as a sub-domain. You will have the option to purchase your site outright after you have built it up to prominence but it will be more expensive that way.

Lots of sites like Weebly, Wordpress or Wix offer free hosting and pre defined templates for making a website. Most of them would also offer paid version with extra features and enhanced security for about $50.
