What racial box would you check off on a form if you are multi-racial or bi-racial?
If you are bi-racial but look more like one race than the other, do you check the box of what you look like or do you put other.
I am bi-racial and my son is multi-racial. I have to fill out a lot of forms for the both of us. There is usually; Black (African American), White, Hispanic, Arabic, Asian and others... I am mixed with two of those races and my son is mixed with four from the list.
If they are trying to get an accurate analysis of our racial background should the list not be more diverse.
Or are we at the point in our evolution that these lists need to be thrown out altogether?
Throw out the list! They serve no purpose other than to separate.
Tick the one that will do you most good: or least harm.
The purpose of the boxes is, I am told to monitor the distribution of people by ethnicity to try and prevent racial discrimination.
Quite often there is not even a box for multi-racial or bi-racial forcing inaccurate information to be given. There are dark skinned people that are of European and Asian ancestry just as much as anything else. There are tanned/light brown skinned people of widely varying backgrounds. There are "white" people that are also black, Indian, Asian, etc. We truly cannot judge books by their covers when attempting to learn a person's racial background. Further, it truly does not matter. It would be nice if others would just acknowledge this (particularly the government and employers) and stop trying to put people into a box. I don't check these boxes in protest because this information really is not important whether it's for a loan, a job, or anything else. In the cases that others take it upon themselves to check any of these boxes off for you, they may be altering legal documents and can get into a lot of hot water by doing so should you call them out.
I would check "other." There are statistics showing that some races have diseases that other diseases might not have. So, thus the question. It seems like you have a lot of races to worry about or you could decide to not worry about it and just click the "other."
When I filled these forms out for my children, I often marked all they were (Black (not Hispanic), White (not Hispanic), Native American). Eventually, I marked them all including Pacific Islander. I do have blood relatives in New Zealand ...

Why are some people angry over a multi-racial family being represented in a Cheerios commercial? The title of the Cheerios commercial is "Just Checking" and a host of negative and astoundingly bad comments followed after it first aired. What's your take?
