    Disco, Rock, or Funk?

What music were you most influenced by in the 70s? Were you a hustler, a hard rocker, or a funkateer?

All of the above. I have always, and still do, enjoy so many different types of music. I particularly like 70's music.

Wo, a long time ago, and my cultural literacy peaked around the time of Sargeant Pepper (it's always been shaky). I'd say Rock, but I did absolutely love "Last Dance," by Donna Summer; it really summed up the loneliness and disaffection of that era.

I found that both disco and rock touched me in ways that I am still discovering.  But for me, I would have to say that the music that influenced me the most was jazz.  I found it soothing and thought provoking at the same time.  Jazz made me think of what was, and what could be.

Nice. I loved smooth jazz of the late eighties but really didn't appreciate true jazz until I met my husband. Thanks for your answer.

Your welcome janshares.  I am into smooth jazz, as well as almost all other types of music too.  But I have to admit, I don't get acid music.  Oh well, life marches on ... and so does a good song.

I wasn't around in the 1970s but all of it did have an influence on current music. Disco gets thrown under the bus way too often and funk, well there hasn't been anything like it since. Great question!

Absolutely, Alecia. Did you see the 2-hour Unsung special on Disco? It was awesome.

I'm partial to the 70s which included everything from Soul, R&B, Motown, Disco, P-Funk, and the start of The Quiet Storm (smooth jazz format) in 1979. Elton John, Queen,Barry Manilow, and Kenny Rogers also cranked out some good music during the 70s, classics like B.B. King's version of The Thrill is Gone came out in 1970, Temptations "Just My Imagination" in 1971, Barry White. Al Green, Isaac Hayes, and countless groups like The Stylisitcs, Blue Magic, Spinners, Earth Wind & Fire, Kool & The Gang (Summer Madness), Ohio Players, Isley Brothers, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, The Commodores. The Dramatics...etc I could  go on and on. :-)

Love that walk down memory lane, dashingscorpio. The 70s were indeed awesome as you've laid out so well. Thanks for your answer.
