What's the best way to record Xbox gameplay?

I'm strongly considering starting to record some of my game-play and uploading them as Let's Plays.  However, I know virtually nothing about how to go about this.  What are some different options that I can try to capture game-play, preferably with commentary by myself and one or two others?  I'm a little low on funds, so it'd be better if I could do it relatively inexpensively...

Video capture cards are fairly inexpensive compared to most options. For commentary you may have to do that seperately on a computer mic and put the audio over the gameplay footage using an editing software

If you have XBOX or PS3 you will need a dedicated PVR unit that allows you to play the game whilst pushing a video feed to a PC or laptop to record HD footage.  There are a couple on the market that are used by the majority of people on YouTube.

There are a lot of how to videos on YouTube also, which will give you a good idea of the options.

    Cheers

I've been avoiding youtube, because I've looked before and lots of what I found were either super expensive and complicated, didn't allow for simultaneous game-play and audio commentary recording, or were really bad quality. That still the case?

    Hello AM Hanson!

What gaming console did you want to record? Because this could change which capture card is the best one for you.

There are many capture cards out there now days that you can capture gameplay and record commentary at the same time using the software that comes with the capture card.

I have a capture card myself and use it to do the same thing.

I made a few articles that would help you with this subject:

    6 Cheap Capture Cards

    Best Capture Cards with HDMI

The video quality you want to record, will be a major factor that will make the price vary.

Let me know on Hubpages or my website if you have any questions!

    Mark!
