How does the three sea shell method work?
In the movie Demolition Man (Sandra Bullock, Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes) they don't use toilet paper, they use the three sea shells. Does anyone know how that concept works?
In urban areas, the most successful new technology was the Three Seashell Method. Since only one water source was available in most public accommodations, “seats of repose” were arranged in circular arrays. Each “depositor” was required to place a shell shaped “reflector” beneath his or her body and excremental pellets (a convenient side effect of the manufactured diet) would be bounced to the main collection drain. Known technically as Projectile Recovery (PR), the process was more commonly referred to as the Three Rail Billiard Shot.
The PR method required a minimal amount of water. The pellets being small and comparatively dry, hygienic considerations were minimal and the second and third seashells were placed to direct streams of water mist and heated air to the bodily orifices, simplifying the process and obviating the need for Toilet Tissue.
