   What do you think of the recent federal money cuts?
   
   They have cut billions of dollars from the federal funding. How do you feel about this? What specific cut means the most to you?

   There haven't been any cuts in Federal Spending.  The Gov't has a larger budget for 2013 than they did in 2012.  They only cut the rate of growth of the budget.  In your house, cutting your grocery bill means spending less on groceries.  In Washington DC...getting a 3% increase instead of the 5% you hoped for is called a cut.  It's a nice little game they play called baseline budgeting.

      What about the cuts to head start then? Lots of head starts had to put their students' names into a hat or fish bowl recently and send kids who were not picked out packing. What do you think of that?

   This is not an actual cut in over all spending, but rather a reduction in the built in increases that are, unfortunately, part of the system. Spending is set to automatically increase every year regardless of any other factors. This "cut" was only a reduction in the increase and not a cut from previous spending. Picture it this way: This year you spend $1000 on groceries and your spending "budget" for next year is already set to be $1100, regardless of whether your costs go up or not. If you then decide to only spend $1050 instead of the $1100 allocated, you are still spending more than the previous year. BUT, according to the "baseline" budgeting of Washington, you had a cut.

   It has not effected me at all. It turns out the "Fiscal cliff" didn't cause the world to come to an end. It was this year's Y2K.
   What a shock! :-)
