What does your writing style say about you and is it something which just developed quite naturally?
Sallybea, this question really made me think.
It is my opinion that we the writer do not determine what our writing style says about us.
Readers; those outside of the realm of our muse form the consensus of what our writing style says.
Perhaps 50 years from now a literature or comp class will dissect our writing and conclude that our work was merely symbolic, and represents something entirely different than previously understood.
As a manic reader of Fiction, Mystery, Sci-Fi, Horror, Technical writing, and Juvenile Literature, I find most writers are artistically inclined with an ability to communicate as a vehicle, transporting the reader easily to a different place; into the story.
Personally, I think I have an empathy with readers who need information and help. It is my desire to communicate with whoever may gain from my writing, photography and drawings that makes me careful to reach past my own small space on the planet. There is an attempt on my part to reach out, and touch all sections of society.
Although I have a natural artistic bent, without the formal training I have received in college and writer's conferences, I would not have evolved to this point.
Hello LillyGrilzit - I find your reply fascinating. As an amateur photographer, I recognize that I have developed my own style without any conscious effort. Might a reader interprets what they want to see in writing? Great comment, thanks.
My main writing style came about because of the career that I followed (That of a communications manager) and that's because it was very much about writing for a business audience.
I used to write creatively a fair bit too, but it would be an effort to adopt that style again. Ultimately, I think my writing style is dictated by the needs of my audience and the message I am trying to get across.
my writing style tends to leave room for creative commentary. I like to be engaging
Hello Breatheeasy I checked out a few of your Hubs and I think that you certainly achieve this. Engaging a reader is something we all aspire to. Thanks for your comment, it is much appreciated.
Really appreciate that Sallybea...that means a lot
All I know is that I have loved writing since I was a child. I do, however, believe that my experience as an educator may have influenced my writing. I think my style would be very different had I not graduated from college. Great question and a tough one for me to answer. I am glad you asked this question, and I have enjoyed reading the comments you have received.
So have I loved writing since I was a child. My writing however was not developed at college so I suspect I have a different way of expressing myself to yours. I very much enjoyed all the comments I have received too. Thank you for yours ocfireflies

What role does writing style play in success as a hubber /writing and earning an income?

Does your writing style remind you of another author's. Not in anyway, implying plagerism, just asking.
