It's really hard to say since everyone is different.  A good idea is to go to the mall or a specialty store (like Ulta) and try the cologne on.  I know that some cologne that smells amazing on some turns and smells awful on another person.
Personally, I like Armani colognes but, being a girl, am probably not the best judge on colognes.  Like I said though, your best bet is to go and try some on

Choosing your first fragrance may seem like a huge challenge but it doesn’t have to be. A few things to take in consideration would be

The time of day you’re going to wear your new scent. Will you be wearing this to work/school, a first date, a special date etc.

A safe bet for a casual would be something like Davidoff Cool Water. Everyone has it and it smells good.

Another safe but common cologne would be something like Joop.

I have a hub that may help

Marc Jacobs for men is a great fragrance. The main thing to remember is to keep your fragrance light, especially since you are a beginner. You also want to attract women, so anything too heavy can turn her off. But Marc Jacobs has sex appeal. I think you'll like it. The other good thing is that french fragrances are not made with synthetics - just pure essence. Consequently, what you smell in the bottle should smell the same on you!

Hi Crazed Novelist. Thank you so much for the vote! Honestly, I'm so glad you liked Marc Jacobs. All of his fragrances are amazing. If you have a girlfriend, be sure to introduce her to Daisy; it's a beautiful woman's fragrance, also from M. Jacobs..

You should try Eau Sauvage by Christian Dior,  It has a citrusy masculine scent which is good for either work or leisure.   Another excellent cologne to try is CkOne Shock by Calvin Klein.  That cologne is totally cutting edge and SO NOW.  Wear that cologne whenever you want to make a ........STATEMENT.   For your more formal and/or intimate moments, try a musk-based and or leather-based cologne.
