   How do I encourage my readers to share and vote up my content?
   
   My readers do not seem vary engaging.

   Joseph, the only way I know of to "encourage" readers to comment, share, vote up, etc., is to churn out content they can't resist.  It certainly doesn't help to "suggest, plead, cajole, threaten or beg"--not that I'm saying you do any of those things, but the only time the "average" reader will give you a Vote Up is if reading a page of your work leaves that individual thinking,
   
   "Wow!  That was really GREAT!  I wish I had written THAT!  This guy's a freaking GENIUS!"
   
   Okay, so that's a slight exaggeration, but...well, here, think about it this way:
   
   There are certain writers here on HubPages that I KNOW I'm going to Vote Up before I even read their Hubs.  WillStarr, for example, the absolute master of the short story twist ending.  Or if I'm in the mood for pure, unadulterated INFORMATION, Patti Inglish.  In the political sphere, from the conservative viewpoint, TheFrogPrince never misses the mark.
   
   These (and numerous others) produce consistently engaging material. 
   
   Bottom line, it's not up to the readers to be "very engaging".  It's up to the writer to produce engaging material.

   For me, the only way I have gotten readers is by reading others hubs and commenting. They are usually reciprocal and read something of mine and so it goes.
   
   As far as voting the hub up, I guess they will do it if they like what they read. You can't force it.  Time is the key element and patience.
   
   Joseph, I just read some of your hubs and the subject matter seems interesting. I did notice a lot of typos and wrong words. I have no idea if that will help you in your quest - but maybe take a look.

   have you read their hubs and encourage them too? Sometimes, when you encourage or give them compliments, they will read your hubs and compliment back and shared too. That's what I did and make sure that your words are genuine. Read the hubs from top to bottom and vote. Best of luck.

   I found that writing good content, and reading other people's hubs bring me more views, votes, comments, and shares.
   
   That said, I am not sure that getting views from other Hubbers should be a priority.  When the content is good and properly optimized for search engines, it is that traffic that comes regularly and pays the most.  And people coming from search engines tend to not comment very much.

   I have started adding a prompt at the bottom of my hubs that read something like this:
   
   Tell Us What You Think
   
   You're reading "Definition of Anorexia" by Abby Campbell. Please leave a comment and tell us what you think below. Then share the article with your family and friends. You may even share on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest (buttons to your right).
   
   I don't know if it helps or not, but I also notice that when I comment on other hubs, the authors of those hubs reciprocate. However, it is difficult to read tons of hubs with a busy schedule. With that being said, it seems that most comments come from other hubbers - not from the outside world.
   
   Though the outside world may not comment as much as hubbers, that doesn't mean that the outside world doesn't read hubs. For me personally, I pull more Google searchers than hubbers, even though they don't comment. One of my hubs seems to get astronomically more views than the others each day (mostly from Google). Hundreds view this particular hub, and it's where most of my hub earnings come from... even though the comments come from hubbers.
   
   You can also share your content on other social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+ groups, etc. I keep a schedule of my postings to each one of these as I post a different hub to each one (recommendation is not to post the same hub to every group on the same day). To keep me straight, I have a grid to keep track. When I do post in other places, I notice my views go up.

   I would say you need to the same. If you want positive feedback, then I think you must give it also. Not saying that you do not. Just my humble opinion.
