Why do doctors have poor penmanship?
I really don't understand why doctors write in a way that we could not understand. Why do they write like this?
When I was a hospital corpsman, I used to tease the docs by telling them I know they had to pass bad penmenship classes in order to get their degrees. Seriously though, I don't think they do it on purpose. First, they have a lot of work to do, so they write fast so they can get it done. Also, part of it is probably because they do so much writing during the day. I know as a corpsman working in an urgent care clinic, my writing would be neat at the beginning of a shift and by the end of the day it would look almost as bad as the sample you showed.
I heard one time that doctors write that way so it is hard for patients to try to forge the doctor's signature or write out their own prescriptions. If a patient can't clearly read what is on the prescription, it is much harder to try to duplicate it.
