What is your favorite breed or mix of dog & why

I love Boxers.  I have owned two boxers now.  My first only lived 10.5 years; his name was Rocky & he was a great pet.  My current boxer, named Sugar Ray, is also a great pet.  Sugar Ray is extremely loyal, faithful and dependent on me.  He is another appendage. He follows me everywhere.  I cannot stand, move or sit without him dogging my every move. He jumps in the air off all 4 legs when I grab my car keys, knowing we are going for a ride. I love Boxers.

Am I allowed to choose mutts? That's what I'm saying. I've interacted with all kinds of dogs and, at least in my experience, mutts seem to be the most loving and obedient.

Yes you are.  That was my intent with adding the word "mix" to the question. I just wish you could upload a picture of your dog. Someone should suggest to HubPages the uploading of pictures on comments.

When you post an answer, there is the tiniest camera underneath. That's how you can post a photo.

Oh my stars.  Thank you CraftytotheCore.  My 56 year old eyes never noticed that tiny, little, itty-bitty camera.

Dachshunds. They are small, loyal, and adorable. Bark only when threatened, follow you everywhere, only have one owner that they focus all their attention on. The best friend who will never go away.

I have only owned big dogs, but I like the thought of a dog being small enough to sit in my lap.  That is something my dog tries to do, but his size & strength is too much. I like Dachshunds myself.

Richie is a pit-bull mix.  This picture was taken the day I rescued him.
I grew up with dogs.  I've owned many breeds.  It's hard to pick one.  I've loved each and every one of them.  Richie holds a special place in my heart.  I guess I fight for the underdog.

I love dogs and there are so many breeds that I enjoy. But, my all time favorite is the Lab. I have had many over the years and I think my favorite aspect of the breed is their sheer joy at just being alive. They also seem to have a sense of humor!

I love my best friend, a choc lab, Duffy, to old age at 13 years 4 months and it left such a hole.  Now I have Tully and while is is no Duffy, he is a pretty cool dog and has that love of life!

    Boxers are cool.

I'm sorry you lost Duffy.  It was 2 years before I could look for a replacement for my Boxer Rocky. And it took me another 2 years to love Sugar Ray as much as I loved Rocky. If they're good, it is hard to lose them & they don't live long enough.

That is what my husband and I say all the time. The good ones don't live long enough. Their lives go by in the blink of an eye. Dogs are so dear, I could not live without one or two...or more.

I love all breeds of dogs from mixed varieties to pedigree. I have a couple Jack Russell mixed breeds. One is half Chihuahua and the other half mutt. I live in a mobile home on a side hill and a smaller breed is better choice for me.

When I was a kid on the farm we had a Border Collie named Tinker. She was very smart and very friendly. Although I have known and loved many other breeds over the years I have a very soft spot for Border Collies. If I had room for one to roam and had something for them to herd I certainly would have one now.  I'll have to say the Border Collie is my favorite breed.

I have a border collie named Georgia.  She is soul mates with my pitbull up above.  I rescued them nearly around the same time and they have just grown to become the bestest of friends.

My favorite breed is the Belgian Malinois.  I rescued one from the shelter in 2011 and he is now 6 years old.  He is by far the smartest and most protective dog I have ever had.  In addition to already having obedience training when I adopted him, he has learned to open cabinets and doors, knows when to cross at cross walks, unscrews lids and caps, plus many other things.  I also like that he is very athletic and makes a great walking/jogging partner.  He is a little difficult at times when he gets bored, but I don't think I ever want a different breed.

This dog sounds like he should be in show business.  He sounds like a great dog & a great companion.

I too, love boxers......My Uncle always had a boxer for his kids to grow up with.  They can be very lovable......My cousin has an adorable boxer named, "Leah."  She is spoiled rotten......Queen of the household.
I have had numerous & different breeds of dogs.  Cocker Spaniels, Border Collies, German Poodle,  Heinz 57 Mutts.......and of course, loved them all!
I don't think I've ever thought about a "favorite" breed.   My favorite dog is the dog I happen to be Mom to, at the moment!

I don't have a favorite breed, but I do have a favorite type. I love dogs that are energetic, bold-tempered, independent, athletic and intelligent, but still enjoy petting and snuggling. The dogs I've had that best fit this description were a Redbone and a Catahoula. My Redbone lived to 15 years, and the Catahoula is currently just over 2 years. Most hounds and many working dogs fit this description beautifully. I also handled a team of sled dogs that were almost all Greyhound/Alaskan Husky crosses who also fit it. Basically, I love having a dog who fits in well at home, but is eager to go for a bike ride or a long mountain hike with me, and who loves canine sports such as agility, skijoring and cani-cross.
