   Should citizens with a conceal carry permit be allowed to carry a handgun while on school property?
   
   Since 1980, 297 People Have Been Killed in School Shootings~According to Slate.com
   The Nevada middle school has sparked continued concern and for good reason.   Understanding most criminals do not follow the law.  Do you believe the law that prevents responsible law abiding citizens with a concealed permit from carrying on school grounds is the right answer?

   I say no. I'm not worried about the law-abiding, permit carrying person walking into the school and killing people. What would worry me is the student or faculty member who decides they're going to kill someone taking the other person's gun to do it. The other problem (and it can happen anywhere) is the accidental shooting. Not all law-abiding, permit carrying gun owners have the common sense not to be playing around with the gun. I think it's better to keep the guns out of the schools so the kids will be safe from intentional AND unintentional harm.

   All other things being equal, a hostile element will always try to bring a vector of force necessary to beat a target's defenses. Up-gun defenses and the likely result is the hostile element up-guns themselves or shifts tactics to balance the change. The end result is the same confrontation takes place just with greater energy involved which generally is bad for innocents in the line of fire. Essentially, an arms race.
   
   The only legitimate solution is to engage the hostile element before they become one or before they engage their target. It is probably much more useful and effective to talk about social solutions to these issues.
   
   And if you really want to harden schools, hardening their interiors isn't really the way to go. Once a hostile element has gotten inside a school, there is a very good chance bad things are going to happen regardless of an armed presence. Hardening really should take place at the perimeter. Of course the NRA doesn't sell fences so you won't hear them taking such a stance.

      I understand you approach.  However, how about the parent who is at a basketball game?  Do you feel they should sit idle?  Should they be allowed to defend other kids and parents with the use of the same force?
