That would seem to be the mindset of a great many people. The history of socialism however, does not speak well to such an assertion. It does not speak well to a free society, nor to an achieving society, as it promotes an accepted mediocrity and a government defined individual, who essentially ceases to exist. There are many forms and levels of socialism and, as history again demonstrates, each faction will contradict the other for supremacy, no peace here. Socialism is defined as the government control of production and the means of production. Today, by some definitions the word government has been deleted and replaced with community. This is fluff and puff feel good rhetoric, as the community becomes government and controlled by a few.
If by definition the government controls everything and defines everything, what value is a democracy?
If one promotes a socialism, what exactly is one promoting, a Marxist (totalitarian form of socialism) which mandates an equality for all people, except the ruling class. In the mandating of equality, is talent, ambition, achievement all controlled under mandated equality. Is it a socialism based on a fascistic form of government
Certainly under socialism individual desires, as to religious belief and practice must be controlled, as this spawns contradictory views, unless, of course, the government becomes the religion, as again history demonstrates. Free speech cannot exist or freedom of the press, as all voices must speak from the same page.
It is said that, "Democracy is the only road to socialism." But, then under socialism democracy has no value.
Socialism takes many forms and  is called by many names and  essentially is the government control of all things to include you. Socialism can be found in Fascism, Nazism, Communism and, of course Marxism  and  regardless of the color of the roses on the bush, the thorns are still present.

Excellent answer. Many people who advocate a socialist form of government do not think through to the end...the consequences. A socialist society will only benefit the wealthy.

If the world can have one and only one religion that is "Humanity" then it might be possible to have a socialist world government and world peace but even then blood relations will in the governments will favor their blood relations and there will be conflicts to endanger peace.

There is no "system" that can ever be designed, that would not be abused by the people that are running said system....The only thing wrong with governments, is the greedy corruptible people running them....The trouble with having people "in positions of great power", is they can't handle that amount of power, unless they understand where that feeling of power comes from....Even if you we're to have a completely free society where everyone had to vote on everything before it became a new law, & everybody got their fair share of all the resources etc....Someone would get greedy or lazy, & then it would start all over again....So it is inevitable that the world will keep getting worse & all you could ever do is slow it down temporarily the Orwellion state will be coming soon....It's doesn't bother me because i know the masses couldn't care less, & most of them want big brother taking care of them....So it's going to always get worse as they gain more control of their populations, & that as they say is progress!lol....Micro chipped kids the credit era etc all coming soon, but never mind all that "what's on the tele" is all anyone says to me!. :-(
