    Windows 8 and 8.1 won't start-up on my Dell laptop despite several re-installations, why?

    I've a Dell Inspiron N4050 on which I've installed Windows 8 and 8.1 thrice, but it won't work alright. Most of the times the lockup screen doesn't appear at all, a black blank screen appears and the Windows won't resume any more beyond that. Is it a hardware specific issue?

    Salam,
    i think it is software problem, when you just switch on your pc click on F8 then choose last good knowing configuration, if it didnt work then try to format your PC, if it is designed with window 8 or with windows 7, if it didnt work, then i think it could be the hard drive maybe it is down, so you may have to change it.

      The problem is with Windows 8 and 8.1 only. Windows 7 and other Operating Systems work perfectly and no hardware problem exists. I think there is some hardware compatibility issue between the Dell hardware on my laptop and the Windows 8 environment.

      Well, when the manufacturer build a PC, and then put the Operating System, like in your case they putted Win7, there for the Win7 is the ultimate OS you could have for your PC.
      As long as you don't have a touch PC, it doesn't worth  the upgrading.

      That's not a definite answer. My PC came with Ubuntu installed and I switched over to Windows. Normally PCs supporting Win 7 have not been reported problematic with Win 8, and therefore I need to know whether its really a hardware compatibility issue
