What made Apple introduce smart phones with larger display in the global market?
Apple has introduced iPhone 6 and 6 plus with 4.7 and 5.5 inch displays respectively. That is really larger when compared to its previous models.
The electronics market is highly competitive. It is all about what the consumer wants and who can give it to them first. When Apple sees success in Droid phones, they have to compete as best as they can. The Galaxy Note, the Galaxy S5, and the Windows phones all came out with more user friendly, enlarged screens recently. When people began to turn to these brands over Apple, they had to come up with a product that could compete.
I was told that the larger screens are because of battery demands. In other words, to keep up with all these devices need to do, larger batteries are needed to power them, so the larger screen is the positive spin they put on it. Most people I've met who have used smart phones with larger screens complain that it isn't convenient to carry around in their pocket.
That's a great point. However, consider this: as the phone screens are growing out, the phones have had a significant decrease in their width. So the batteries are growing in the same proportion.
As the size of the screen increases the power consumption also increases. Isn't it?
That's another good point; they do have to execute more power to support more surface, all while the battery really isn't getting much bigger.
A larger screen will draw more power, but (like with a computer) the processor and graphics card are going to pull most of the energy.
