    Would anyone be interested in setting up a fund to go after copyright violators civily & crininaly?

    The international law and US Code provide for both civil and criminal penalties for copyright infringement.  Yes, we can get purloined materials taken off websites such as linkedgem.com and wordpress.com, etc.  But I would like to see copyright violators be penalized under the law rather than just having their wrists slapped and telling them to desist in each case.  There are expenses involved and we could agree on egregious cases to prosecute and set a standard to protect our postings on HP that these copyright violators try to post as their own creations.  Express your thoughts, please.

    Your focus is admirable. The small time publisher/author would do well to have a group to help them in such matters. But on the grand scale the groups that protect copyrights are some of the most massive lobbyists and litigation groups in the world. IP interests are overwhelmingly stronger than infringers. Check out the provisions in any free trade agreement - they are staggeringly stacked against infringing. Those "knock offs" you see and here about make internet infringement look like a gnat on an elephant. We are talking a billion dollar industry on the criminal side.
    I would not donate.

      DMCA includes both civil and criminal penalties, and I cannot recall hearing of any of the infringers being actually penalized for the harm they cause inspite of that international act the USA upholds.  Are the infringers simply being ignored?

      Oh no! The ARSC I think it is got a single mom for 1.2 million for her daughter's downloaded and shared songs. I think the MPA got someone just recently for something like 7 million for bootleg movies. These guys are serious as death.
